Munnabhai Chale Amreeka

Just when all Munnabhai fans had given up any hope of seeing the much promised third installment in the series, news comes in that Munnabhai Chale Amreeka is very much in the pipeline. The filming will begin at the end of the year.

Munnabhai Chale Amreeka is very much on the cards. Raju has been working on the script, and we should begin filming soon” confirms Munnabhai, Sanjay Dutt, himself.

Arshad Warsi, who is currently enjoying the success of his first production Hum Tum Aur Ghost, is equally optimistic of doing the film. “Raju has been working on the story and screenplay for some time now. We all know how Raju works, and he needs the story to be just right. We didn’t want to make the sequel just to cash in on the Munnabhai success. We want to make a good and equally enjoyable film,” explains Arshad.

But what has delayed the film for so many years?
“The film, as the name suggests, is set in the US. Now, many films have been made with the whole New York and 9/11 incident in the background. A lot of them were being filmed or released during the time Raju was writing the script. Plus 3 Idiots also happened for Raju. So, for a good year and a half, he was completely immersed in that project. He has now gone back to the writing board and is re-working the script… putting final touches to it,” says Warsi.

According to both Dutt and Warsi, the film should go on floors either in December of this year or at the very start of next year.

B.O. update: 'Short Kut' has poor start, reports negative

Rekha The new release, SHORT KUT, started on a dismal note, fetching a 20% - 25% start at several screens. While a few single screens in Maharashtra were in the 40% range, the overall start is way below expectations, given the fact that some of the biggest names in the business are associated with the film. Also, the reports are outright negative and the film is not likely to show an escalation in business.

The other two releases, SANKAT CITY and MORNING WALK, also opened to extremely poor houses, although SANKAT CITY is expected to show an increase in business since the reports and reviews, both are positive.

Short Kut - The Con is On - Movie Review

Till quite some time back, remaking a successful film was considered a safe bet. In fact, the most reliable, foolproof way at hitting paydirt. But let's not forget, not all stories have the potential to strike gold.

SHORT KUT, a remake of the Malayalam film UDAYANANU THANAM, written by Anees Bazmee and directed by Neeraj Vora, arrives a bit too late. Actually, it should've hit the screens a couple of years ago. That's because it abounds and relies completely on clichés and which, in turn, makes you break into a big yawn.

Write your own movie review of Short Kut - The Con Is On
Sad, since the basic story of SHORT KUT had the potential to keep your attention arrested. It even starts off well, but runs out of breath soon after. In fact, the graph of the film only goes down as reel after reel unfolds.

Seriously, you want to ask something vital to Anees Bazmee and Neeraj Vora, who have penned, even directed laughathons successfully: What kind of cinema is this? Did Bazmee and Vora lose interest while writing this one? Or did they decide to take the viewer for granted?

In short, SHORT KUT is meant to be a comedy, but is actually a tragedy for the viewers.

Set in Bollywood, SHORT KUT - THE CON IS ON tells the story of two strugglers, one who makes it big as a superstar [Raju - Arshad Warsi] after stealing a script and the other whose struggle as a director [Shekhar - Akshaye Khanna] continues after his script gets stolen.

There's a twist in the tale when reigning actress Mansi's [Amrita Rao] romantic involvement with Shekhar gets culminated into marriage. To add to the chaos, destiny again brings Raju and Shekhar face to face, when Shekhar is set to direct his first film with Raju. What follows now is a clash of egos.

As mentioned at the very outset, SHORT KUT could've turned out to be an insider's view on the film industry. The two aspirants, their struggles, the hardships that they face to get their first break... SHORT KUT could've explored all that and more beautifully. In fact, a few moments do try to capture that at the very start.

But the moment the romantic track sets in, things go for a toss. The plot, suddenly, makes you feel you're watching a diluted version of ABHIMAAN [Amitabh, Jaya]. Then, suddenly, another unexciting track surfaces -- of the superstar throwing his weight on the sets. The film starts losing grip.

The post-interval portions are simply unbearable. You expect things to brighten up, but the writing is so pathetic and the climax so childish and absurd that you're shocked. Looks like the writers must've gone on a vacation and entrusted the responsibility of writing the climax to some amateur types who has zilch knowledge of screen writing. It's the worst climax undoubtedly!

Director Neeraj Vora gets its wrong completely. The writing as also the execution are archaic and outdated. Mr. Vora, which era do you belong to? As for cinematography, the DoP tries hard to make the bad product look enticing. Musically, nothing to hum about.

Akshaye Khanna puts up a sincere act, but what can the best of actors do when saddled with shoddy scripts? Arshad gets better lines, also gets a role that the masses would take to instantaneously, but he's getting typecast. Amrita Rao exposes her anatomy freely. Chunky Pandey manages to make you smile at places. Ali Asgar looks fake. Haider Ali is alright. Siddharth Randeria is theatrical.

On the whole, SHORT KUT - THE CON IS ON is a poor show all the way. A major disappointment.

Predictions for the film Shortkut: The Con is On

Celebrity astro-numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi decodes the fate of the movie Shortkut: The Con is On at the box office. Read on to find out how it will impact the careers of its lead actors and producer.

SHORTKUT: The Con is On: Since when did Shortkut begin to be spelled with a ‘K’? Thanks to people like us, the name of the film is ‘numerologically’ corrected. The current title adds up to No.78 (6). 78 is not a very powerful octave of the number 6, unless it is a love story. Shortkut however is a comedy. It will garner mixed reviews and will do average business at the BO. Anil Kapoor’s date of birth is 24th December. The release date of the film 10th July 2009 adds up to No.1 ( Sun ) which is also the number Anil Kapoor’s name vibrates on. (37 = 3 + 7 = 10 = 1 + 0 = 1)

ANIL KAPOOR: Born on 24th December 1959, Anil is a No.6 ( Venus ) person in numerology. He is a Capricorn (ruler Saturn – No.8) and his compound number adds to No.6 (Venus) again. In that case, he is ruled by No.6 twice. Whoever is talking about his still young & refreshing looks, it’s the Venus effect which he is blessed with. That is why he is so charmingly fit that he can easily give the younger lot a run for their money. Currently in his 59th year, Anil is going through a good phase of his life. His efforts as a producer will be appreciated but it will no translate into box office collections.

AKSHAYE KHANNA: Born on 28th March 1975, Akshaye is a No.1 ( Sun ) person in numerology. He is ruled by No.9 (Aries – ruler Mars) and his compound number adds up to No.8 ( Saturn ). Akshaye is currently running in his 35th year, which may not be very good in terms of his health but careerwise it is looking up for him. Lord Shani is known to give extreme results and it seems this film will catapult Akshaye’s position amongst the few bankable actors in Bollywood. The release date of the film adds up to No.1, which is his birth number. This would further help him get good reviews for his performance from the audience and critics alike.

ARSHAD WARSI: Sharing his date of birth with business tycoon Mukesh Ambani, Arshad is born on 19th April 1968 which makes him a No. 1 ( Sun ) person in numerology. He is ruled by No.9 (Aries – ruler Mars) and his compound number adds up to No.2 ( Moon ). Since he is ruled by No.2, he is automatically ruled by No.7 ( Neptune ). Arshad is passing through his 42nd year which is one of his better numbers plus the year 2009 which adds up to No.2 being amongst his best numbers will help him garner equal praise in the film. He will not be sidelined or left out in comparison to lead actor Akshaye Khanna.

AMRITA RAO: Unless the plot revolves around the female lead, our heroines have nothing left or much to do especially when pitted against fine actors like Akshaye Khanna and Arshad Warsi. Even worse, when her luck is running bad. That’s exactly is happening with actress Amrita Rao who was born on 17th June 1981. She has just entered her 29th year (2 + 9 = 11; 1+1 = 2). No. 2 happens to be one of her weakest numbers. The year 2009 adding up to 2, adds fuel to the fire and thus makes it more difficult for her to be noticed in this enterprise. Having said that, she has tried to shy away from her girl-next-door image and shed all her inhibitions in this film, but to no avail as she is not likely to be appreciated in her new avatar.

Arshad thinks joke on Michael Jackson not funny

Circuit actor, Arshad Warsi has recently had a change of fuse…heart when he decided to have a joke on Michael Jackson removed from his forthcoming film Short Kut.

Arshad WarsiA source informs, “Arshad held a private screening of the film for his family and friends. It was just a day after MJ’s death on June 25th. After he saw the film, he realised that the pun on Michael Jackson was in bad taste.”

He immediately called up his director Neeraj Vora and asked for the scene to be removed in view of Michael Jackson’s sudden death and as a measure of respect.

Neeraj said, “It’s tough to delete the scene as the final prints are out, but we are working on making this change.”

Apparently, when Anil Kapoor, who is the producer of Short Kut learnt of Arshad’s concern, he agreed to have the scene removed. He is reported to have said that his production could not be insensitive to MJ.

Although the scene is for comic relief, it has turned into something else, especially since MJ’s tribute a day ago. Arshad sure knows how to respect his guru. Wasn’t it MJ’s moves that started his career in the beginning? Arshad initially wanted to be a choreographer more than an actor.

Better late than sorry we say, he has done the right thing not only for MJ, but for the film’s good humour too, at a time when crude humour is making waves.

Salman drops Akshaye from TV show

According to sources, for the promotion of Anil Kapoor’s home production “Short Kut – The Con Is On”, Akshaye Khanna and Anil were to appear on Salman Khan’s TV show “10 Ka Dum”.

Everything was fine and the dates too had been fixed. But suddenly Salman suggested that it would be better to have Arshad Warsi and Anil Kapoor on the show rather than Akshaye Khanna and Anil Kapoor.

He also justified it by saying that Akshaye has got a very serious type of image which would make the show quite boring. So to make it interesting he suggested Arhsad’s name, who also features in the film.

Anil, who is a good friend of Salman, did not have a problem with this and the fresh dates for the shoot are being worked on.

Apparently this comes a day after Anil blasted Akshaye for not promoting “Short Kut”. Akshaye has a problem with Arshad and hence he does not want to be part of any promotions.

With this episode, it seems that Arshad and Anil have joined hands and they do not want Akshaye anywhere in the picture.

Vidya Balan refuses liplock with co-star Arshad Warsi

After her kiss with Madhavan in Guru, Vidya Balan seems to have developed cold feet to the idea of puckering up to another co-star. The actress has put her foot down and said no to a liplock with Arshad Warsi in Ishqiya.

A source from the unit reveals, "Ishqiya was being shot on Wednesday at the Borivili National Park. Several scenes were to be canned, including one smooch scene between Vidya and Arshad. The actress threw a spanner in the works and completely refused to a liplock with Arshad. Director Abhishek Chaubey was taken aback as he had informed Vidya about the kissing scene beforehand."

The source continues, "Balan has intimate scenes with Arshad in the film but her refusal to smooch shocked everyone. Producer Vishal Bhardwaj was called to the sets. He couldn't make it as he was busy editing his other project, Kaminey. She was persistent. The director was forced to drop it altogether."

It is learnt that Vishal will be meeting Vidya to discuss her reservations for not enacting the scene. The source maintains, "Abhishek is sure that once she speaks to Vishal, she will do the scene. She has been co-operative throughout the shoot. It's surprising that she did steamy scenes but refused to smooch Arshad."

Co-producer Mansi Maroo maintains, "I was present on the sets and nothing like this happened. Vidya is informed about any and all scenes in advance."

Vidya remained unavailable for comment.
