Jashnn - Movie Review
The Bhatts have often told stories that seem straight out of everyday life. Their new outing JASHNN also mirrors the thoughts of zillions of hopefuls. It's about a nobody who wants to achieve success in life, wants to live his dreams, wants to become a somebody some day. In that respect, JASHNN, with director duo Raksha Mistry and Hasnain Hyderabadwala in the driving seat, drives home the point convincingly. You can't deny the fact that JASHNN brings back memories of the immensely likable ROCK ON!!, for JASHNN is also about a boy band, about dreams, about defeat and about success. Like ROCK ON!!, JASHNN also looks at relationships, but the relationships here are poles apart.
In this case, the protagonist [Adhyayan Suman] is living off his sister [Shahana Goswami], who is reduced to being the mistress of a wealthy entrepreneur [Humayun Saeed] and who loathes the protagonist. Actually, the relationship between the siblings and also the volatile relationship between Adhyayan and Humayun are the mainstay of the film. Sequences between them expose the stark reality of life.
But JASHNN is not without its share of hiccups. The romantic track could've been as intense as the volatile ones. Also, it gets long drawn towards the second hour and robs the film of its sheen to an extent. But the climax more than compensates for the blemishes. Thankfully!
All said and done, JASHNN is yet another compelling tale from the house of Bhatts. Super music coupled with bravura performances from its principal cast makes JASHNN an interesting watch.
Akash [Adhyayan Suman] thirsts to become a singing icon. But though he has dreams in his heart, he is unable to find that distinctive voice that he can call his own, that will propel him to the top. Only when he confronts a bitter truth - that he is freeloading off his elder sister Nisha [Shahana Goswami], who, in order to offer him a decent lifestyle, has become the mistress of a rich businessman Aman Bajaj [Humayun Saeed] - is he is able to touch his inner core.
Jashnn Call it irony or a twist of fate, but the person who sees him through this dark night and mentors him when he's down and out is none other than the sister of the person who he hates most in the world - Aman Bajaj. It is Sara [Anjana Sukhani], Aman's sister, who makes him realize that he is an extremely talented man and is simply going through a bad phase.
In the end, he not only touches his inexhaustible potential and becomes an overnight star, but also humbles his biggest detractor Aman Bajaj and in the process, lives up to the faith that his sister and Sara had in him all along.
Director duo Raksha and Hasnain step into a different domain [emotions], after attempting thrillers. And the relationships here are too complex. Some instances...
* Watch out for the tiff between Adhyayan and Humayun, when the latter abuses Shahana. The subsequent sequence, when Adhyayan apologises to Humayun at his office, is heart-breaking.
* Here's another. Adhyayan and Shahana enter Anjana's party and the confrontation that ensues with Humayun there. Another master stroke!
* Note another sequence. In the post-interval portions, Adhyayan's demo is rejected by the music company baron and his outburst at this point. It breaks your heart!
* The same night, he takes refuge in drinks and even robs money from another guest at the hotel. What happens thereafter is astonishing.
* In the climax, Adhyayan calls his sister on stage and makes her accept the trophy from Humayun. Clapworthy, but deeply emotional!
But, as mentioned earlier, JASHNN loses its grip during the romantic sequences. The film dips in the second hour, which is long drawn and half as convincing at times. The low phase that Adhyayan goes through could've been more effective and shorter.
Jashnn Director duo Raksha and Hasnain show sparks of brilliance in the above-mentioned scenes and they get solid help from writer Shagufta Rafique, whose screenplay is watertight, barring the portions mentioned above. You expect every Bhatt movie to be embellished with melodious and soulful music and the songs in JASHNN are seeped in melody, especially the final track. Dialogues are powerful and dipped in acid at times. Camerawork is up to the mark.
All four actors shine in their respective roles. Adhyayan Suman takes giant strides. Note the helplessness, the sorrow, the dejection and the eventual exhilaration. This is Adhyayan's showreel. Humayun Saeed, from across the border, is brilliant. This film makes you wake up to this talent, which gives the film a rich texture. Here's an actor to watch. Shahana Goswami is already going from strength to strength and JASHNN only proves that she's matchless. She handles her part with amazing understanding. Anjana Sukhani is a revelation. Again, this film should act as a showreel for her. She's excellent.
On the whole, JASHNN is a moving tale with three USPs - its music, the emotional quotient and the performances by its four actors. Despite some loose ends, it should slowly and steadily win over cinegoers based on these three factors.

Predictions for the film Jashnn
“Bollywood seems to have taken to numerology in a big way. After all, how do you explain most film titles being ‘numerologically’ corrected these days with an added ‘extra’ alphabet or spelling the name ‘differently’? After Kambakkht Ishq and Shortkut last week, now comes Jashnn (The initial publicity of the film was without the extra ‘N’),” says Bhavikk.“The title Jashnn adds up to Number 20 which does not have a good meaning as per our numerological texts. It is mostly non-commercial. But yes, Number two is often associated with creativity and hence it seems the makers attempted to make a decent film,” explains the expert.
About the leading actor of the film he says, “Adhyayan Suman was born on Jan 13, 1988. That makes him a Number four in numerology. His destiny number also adds up the same number. He is also ruled by Number eight (Saturn – Capricorn). Currently in his 22nd year, Adhyayan is going through a transitory phase of his life where his focus can easily be distracted. His break up with Kangana Ranaut is in a way a good decision on his part as it would have only created more confusion in his life deciding where to focus his attention. Should he choose love or work?”
He further adds, “The year 2009 adds up to Number two which is one of Adhyayan’s best numbers. Hence his efforts will be noticed and even appreciated to an extent. As for Anjana Sukhani (December 10, 1978), she is also facing the same ‘rahu kaal’ in her 31st year which will bring her mixed results.”
“Luckily, the period between June 20-July 20 is the best time of the year to release any creative venture and Jashnn falls in that category. But alas! The year 2009 does not support anything to do with Number eight. The release date of the film is July 17, 2009. The sum total of this date also adds up to Number eight. This will hit the film really hard. In a nutshell, there will be no ‘jashnn’ this week in Bollywood!” concludes Sangghvi.

Kangana-Adhyayan split just a stunt
It seems the split between Kangana Ranaut and Adhyayan Suman is just a publicity stunt and both of them are part of the strategy.According to sources, Rakesh Roshan is keen to show Kangana as single in the promotional plan of his upcoming film “Kites” and hence the couple “broke up” a few days back.
In the past too, there have been many such cases of break-ups and link-ups of convenience, just for the promotion of movies.
But Adhyayan has said he would never use his personal relationships for such promotions and publicity. He has also said that he has for sure broken up with Kangana and there is no room for any such rumours now.
However, during all her public appearances since the breakup, Kangana has looked anything but sad. In fact, she has been looking uncharacteristically happy and we haven’t seen her smile so much before.
We feel there could be one of three reasons for her happiness: there is indeed no breakup; she is happy Adhyayan is out of her life; or being the good actress that she is, she is putting on a happy face.

My female fans are scared of Kangana: Adhyayan Suman
JashnnThe film is the story of Aakash, an aspiring Rockstar. He wants to make something of his life and he believes that to become successful is child’s play. Only when he faces the real world, the challenges and meets people who are out to bring him down, he realises it's not that as easy after all. It’s a story about relationships and how he achieves and celebrates success in the end.
Shahana Goswami
Apart from Aakash, the film revolves around a very sensitive brother and sister story. His sister (Shahana) is somebody’s mistress and Aakash knows of this fact. Initially he is very lazy and never thinks of working, living off of his sister’s money. He’s enjoying his life but soon realises his need to evolve from a boy to a man.
My story
I can completely relate with the story, it’s about a nobody wanting to become a somebody. It will relate with every aspiring individual in the country. I am still Shekar Suman’s son and when I started off I was a nobody, the struggle of becoming a somebody is still on.
Rock On? Déjà vu
The basic premise of Rock On was rock music; the premise here is of a struggle of a man trying to make something out of himself. It’s his journey of how he becomes a rockstar and is not completely focused on music. Bhatt saab has made a very emotional movie, on the lines of Arth and Saraansh.
New found hobby
I am on my way to learn how to play the guitar; I went through a few guitar lessons as I had to learn how to hold a guitar, the electronic and the acoustic. I did not want it to look fake when I held the guitar onscreen and it’s important that it looks natural when you get on stage and plug the strings in.
My favourite Rockstar
My favourite rockstar is undoubtedly my father Shekhar Suman.
Romancing Shahana and Anjana?
I don’t think I have the power to put an end to such rumours, as far as I know myself I’m a very lovable guy. I love everybody and everyone who’s around me. I’m going to be like this and people are always going to misinterpret it as I am having an affair with somebody. I remember doing a promotional event for my website and I sang Soniyo for both my co-stars. Next thing I read I’m having an affair with Shahana and I’m like chill, everybody’s in a relationship. I was with Kangana at that time and Shahana is with Milind. It’s a part and parcel of the industry and one has to live with it.
Breaking up with Kangana
I have been very open about my love for Kangana in the press, if you see in the relationship I was the one who spoke the most about how much I loved her. The reason it did not work out is very simple, it's very important for me to focus on my career right now, I am one film old and I’ve just had Raaz 2 that worked well for me.Kangana is four years old in the industry and is 10 films down. If I miss the bus now I won’t be able to catch it again and especially in a field like this where 2 lakh people are coming everyday to Bombay to become a star. I can’t afford to mess it up, I haven’t taken my father's help neither have I told him to make a film for me. I’m doing it all for myself. I don’t want to take a chance. We are still friends for love can always wait and career won't.
On dating again
I would prefer to stay single, but for how long I don’t know. It's good for my female friends, they would always be like, Shit why are you taken when I was with Kangana. I remember all these fan mails I used to get, saying we are scared of Kangana and we can’t even ask you out, we’ve seen you so many times around Bombay but never came up to you.
Crushing On?
My biggest crush in Bollywood and I hope Saif doesn’t get angry is Kareena Kapoor. I think she's just gorgeous, one of the finest talents in the industry and I think she’s just amazing.
Coming up
I have 5 films lined up, I have another film with Vishesh Films, one with Girish Acharya and one with my production house. I am working with some very reputed names.
Dekh Bhai Dekh
I am preparing myself for a reality show, we are having a talent hunt to find the heroine for my movie, we are also reviving Dekh Bhai Dekh on television and on the big screen. DBD is huge in terms of its brand value, we had this research done for about 20,000 people in India across seven states and DBD has a recall value of 92%. The show was made in 1993 and its been repeated 7 times on prime time television. It’s important that people capitalize on the brand like how Raaz was a brand and Maheshji capitalized on that. It was a cult and that’s why people are looking forward to watch father and son perform together.
On Daddy’s Political Downfall
I think things worked out really well for him. He was given 15 days to go and campaign in Bihar. He got 90,000 votes and that’s a huge thing. People who have come from Bihar have managed to get 1800 votes after many years of campaigning. I remember going there with him and I have seen 10,000 people on the road, shouting, screaming, and going mad on the streets for my dad. My father didn’t lose the election against Shatrughan Sinha, he lost it to Nilesh Kumar.

Kangana and Adhyayan split
When Adhyayan met Kangana’s parents recently, it looked as if their relationship was ready to go to the next level. But unfortunately their one-year-old relationship has suddenly come to an end.The person most happy with their break-up could be Adhyayan’s dad Shekhar Suman, as he did not like Kangana right from the beginning and always advised his son not to hang around with her and concentrate on his career.
According to sources, their hectic work schedules took a toll on the long distance relationship. It was Adhyayan who initiated the break up and subsequently he and Kangana talked things through and had a calm and amicable parting.
Both have now decided to concentrate on their careers rather than relationships.
Off late, Adhyayan has been linked to his co-stars, Anjana Sukhani and Shahahna Goswani, after he was spotted getting extremely friendly with them. May be he was beginning to feel stifled in his relationship with Kangana, leading him to rethink about it.
Both Adhyayan and Kangana have confirmed the news of their break up and said they have moved on in life.
While Adhyayan has said he wants to concentrate on his career, Kangana, to whom the split has come as a big surprise, said Adhyayan has other priorities now, as well as many options in terms of people to be with.

Its Raining Love! - Kangana Ranaut

Not sure if senior Suman really believed that Adhyayan would actually be recognised and pull in the crowds. No wonder he lost to BJP stalwart Shatrughan Sinha. Maybe the older Suman was just trying to keep his son away from taking his relationship to the next level by meeting Kangana’s parents. But that was inevitable, since Kangana was adamant that Adhyaman come and visit her family.
So, as soon as the election results were out and he was done with giving his father the moral support he needed on losing, Adhyayan took the first flight to be with Kangana’s family. He is expected to spend a week with them, and Kangana is grinning from ear to ear. She hopes he does a lot better with her family than she did with his.

Faithfully yours says Adhyayan to Kangna
While everyone is speculating about Kangna Ranaut’s boyfriend cheating on her while she is busy shooting in Hyderabad, the fact is that Adhyayan Suman is actually playing the ideal boyfriend in her absence. Not only does he visit her house everyday to look after the well-being of the pup they share, he also looks after the mundane affairs of her home.
Recently, residents of her Pali Naka building were surprised to see two regular width gates being replaced by much wider ones. Turned out this became necessary because now that Kangna was to own a BMW the normal gates would not suffice. But they needed to be checked out and what do you know. Adhyayan gracefully drove his BMW in and out of the gates to check they were of the required width.
Meanwhile Kangna Ranaut’s curly and wavy hair will soon be a thing of the past. Kangna has decided to cut and straighten her hair and acquire a fringe for Annes Bazmee’s No Problem.
A friend of Kangna says that, “Initially, Kangna was apprehensive and concerned whether her new look would suit her. However, once she made up her mind that she would experiment with it, there was no stopping her.”
Kangna, who has a natural style confirmed this and added, “I needed a chick hairstyle. I have a big forehead and the fringe will make my face look proportionate.”
Kangna who plays Sushmita’s younger sister in the film will also be seen in some stylish beach wear.
