Preity, Sush in DU

Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Minissha Lamba ... the list of ex-DU students in tinsel town is a pretty long one.

But it turns out that a couple of B-town celebs sought and obtained admission in DU after they became Bollywood A-listers. Preity Zinta apparently enrolled herself for a Bachelor’s degree in English at DU’s School of Open Learning (SOL) for the 2008-09 session, but withdrew her admission later and didn’t sit for the exams. Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen enrolled herself for a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science in the 2007-08 academic session at SOL, but she also withdrew her admission later.

A source from SOL confirmed these facts. Imagine DU’s aspirational value – if they hadn’t withdrawn their admissions, technically, all DU freshers today would have had Preity and Sush as their seniors!

What's happening in Bollywood Town!

Shilpa Shetty sizzles on the cover of Vogue, celebs play cricket for charity, and some pretty girls around town.

Cover Girl: French actress Kalki Koechlin who wowed us with Dev D has landed her first magazine cover in the form on MW. We love the doll-like leggy beauty's Scottish checks trousers and jacket look. It's smart and sexy.

Hot and Sizzling: The bootylicious Miss Shetty shows off her curves with aplomb on the latest issue of Vogue. This is her first cover for the magazine.

Showing Off: Looks like Raima Sen is going the Riya Sen way and showing off some skin. At the CPAA, she was all covered but here she prefers to show off some cleavage. This isn’t bad (her shirt is a tad tight and make up a tad overdone) but we like her natural, traditional avatar better. Every actress wants to look sexy, but she should stand out from the rest.

Doll: Minishha Lamba looks like an adorable doll in the very yellow skirt and frilly white shirt that shows off her womanly frame. We like the girly look.

Doing Casual: With her bangs and dimples, Gul looks adorable too, and the scarf brightens up the dress, but we wish her sandals weren’t so boring

United: Aftab, Sohail, Aamir Ali, Chetan Hansraj and Cyrus Broacha were the men in blue who played a charitable match opposite a team of doctors to raise money for the Cancer Patients' Aid Association

Men in White: Funny men Javed Jaafrey and Govinda were the guests at the event

Revealed: Actress Ragini, of Radha ki Betiyaan fame, plays Bharti in the new serial, Bhaskar Bharti

Minissha Lamba sizzles on the cover of The Man

After her sexy bikini act in Kidnap, Minissha Lamba is every man's ultimate fantasy. Hence, it comes as no surprise to see the Bollywood hottie feature on the cover page of popular men's magazine 'The Man'.

Minissha, who features in 'The Man' magazine's May issue, talks about a number of interesting things right from how she would like to be wooed to her choice of films. The actress, who started out as the simple Kashmiri girl in Yahaan, also talks at length about how people within the industry and outside have started looking her differently post her glamorous avatar in Bachna Ae Haseeno and Kidnap. Most importantly, she also talks about things that give her an adrenaline rush (And just in case you are wondering ...she is referring to adventure sports like bungee jumping and kite surfing).

Minissha also gives a sneak peek of her character in her forthcoming film- Shyam Benegal's Well Done Abba. All these are good enough reasons for you to rush and pick up a copy of 'The Man' at the earliest. After all... you can then have Minissha by your side 24X7.

Minissha wants to be all bloodied & bruised

That Minissha Lamba is a versatile actress is something that we all know but not too many of us know that she takes a keen interest in the bat and ball game.

In town recently, we caught up with the actress who was busy catching up on the IPL action on television. “Cricket is fun, especially the new T20 format! It’s a complete entertainer. Even women love watching this game. And why not? It gets over in just three hours,” Minissha says.

But cricket is not the only game that gets her adrenaline pumping. The actress turned out to be quite a sport as she adds, “I like tennis also, as your heart is always in your mouth. Also, I’m fond of adventure sports like river rafting and scuba diving.”
Little wonder then that Minissha is keen to indulge in some kick ass action, “I am looking forward to doing an action film where I am all bloodied, bruised and aching.” Whether she gets to don this avatar remains to be seen, but the actress will soon be seen playing a village belle in Shyam Benegal’s Well Done Abba.

From a bikini babe in Kidnap to a village girl in Well Done Abba, the actress is sure excited about her new role in the film. “It’s really interesting and I have had great fun reinventing myself. Also, I had to learn the Dakini dialect for the project. It was really tough, not only for me but also for my friends.

During my learning process whenever they used to call me I would talk in Dakini and they thought that I’d lost it,” laughs Minissha. Dubbing her experience of working with Shyam Benegal a “dream come true,” the actress says, “I count myself lucky that Sir chose me for his film. In fact, I couldn’t believe it was happening. He has been making films even before I was born.”

Recounting her experience with the veteran filmmaker, she adds, “We were shooting at 43 degrees in Hyderabad. While the youngsters would have a tough time in that heat, Sir would be there from 8 am till pack-up. He wouldn’t even go to his vanity van. I admire his passion and energy. During lunchtime we would all sit together and Sir would regale us with his tales. I would walk into the set with my head bowed down. Every time I sensed that Sir wasn’t happy with my performance I would feel shattered. But if he liked any particular shot my day was made.”

Minissha Lamba and Anant Narayan not in a film together

After being listed among the ten hot new couples of tinsel town on Buzz 18's Bollywood Love Report Card 2009, Anant Narayan (pictured above) and Minissha Lamba are in demand and how!

After a leading national daily broke the news of a love affair between Minissha and Anant, the journalist-turned-actor is inundated with film offers, especially lighthearted college romances, but producers and directors put only one condition - they want Anant to be paired opposite Minissha Lamba, whom they believe is the special someone in Anant's life.

"Yes, I have received a lot of film offers but it's not because a national daily carried an idiotic linkup story with Minissha Lamba. I've been offered films for over a year now, and I have recently turned down three films because I wasn't too happy with the scripts and the money that was being offered wasn't too exciting either,” said Anant.

“Despite clear cut denials from both Minissha and my end, the industry still believes Minissha and I are a couple,” he adds.

“It all leaves me completely bemused because the truth is I met Minissha some four years ago at the press conference of her first film Yahaan at a five star hotel in Delhi as a journalist. We were constantly in touch over SMS and would exchange occasional phone calls in the last four years. We definitely were very good friends until she stopped talking to me the day she realised I'm no longer a journalist! But that's all right with me. What was certainly not alright with me was the way she lashed out at me in the press, calling me all sorts of names, calling me publicity hungry. I think it was all in very poor taste," says Anant.

So will Minissha and Anant be seen in a film together? "That's a million dollar question. Producers and directors do want to sign us together. In fact, a producer pushed very hard to get the both of us together for a project but sorry to inform you that it's definitely not happening. At least, I'm not interested."

Interestingly both Anant and Minissha are currently shooting in Kolkata. Not for the same film of course! Anant is shooting for Rajeshwari Dasgupta's art film “Anirbaan”, in which he essays the lead role and Minissha is shooting for Shyam Benegal's “Well Done Abba”.

LFW '09: Minissha Lamba: I feel like a princess

The petite and innocent Minissha Lamba turned showstopper for designer Archana Kochchar’s Innocence Collection. She wore a beautiful Victorian era gown with red flowers that lit up as she walked the ramp.

“I feel wonderful, like a princess in this concept gown which is very comfortable and light," said Minissha as soon she stepped off the ramp, "I absolutely loved the dress and the fact that is custom made for me. The dress took a painstaking four months to make but I didn’t contribute anything to it at all. I love to wear good clothes but I have no sense about fashion."

Speaking about her experience on the ramp, Lamba said, “I admire the models that walk for one show after another and have to carry off all kinds of clothes. While I was on the ramp, I just concentrated on keeping one foot in front of the other and making it from one end to the other without falling and with a smile on my face. The fact that people liked it is a bonus but I can’t walk the ramp all the time.”

"I am happy that I got to wear this beautiful gown because in today’s times you can’t wear these unless you are on the ramp or an actress or you are attending a theme or fancy dress party. I love period films and going back to the past so if I get a chance to act in a film in which I have to wear European clothes."

"I am going to call Archana and ask her to send me a collection and I will need a carriage too,” signed off the actress with a smile.
