'Singh Is Kinng 2' ready to roll

Here's the latest on the Akki-Kat project

Before the brand runs out of steam, Akshay Kumar has decided to run the next instalment of 'Singh Is Kinng'.

Vipul Shah, who was in two minds, has decided to direct the sequel since Anees Bazmi seems too busy.

"Yes, after much planning and plotting, and two years since the first film, we've finally cracked an idea that works. My writer Suresh Nair and I are happy with what we've come up with. And yes I'll be directing the sequel," Vipul said.

Though Vipul is not willing to reveal much of the plot for the sequel at this juncture, it's reliably learnt that the sequel would begin where the first 'Singh Is Kinng' trailed off, namely in Australia and then move to another country, apparently Canada which is Akshay's second home.

Akshay's haste to start 'Singh Is Kinng 2' has a root cause. While playing a 'mona Sardar' in 'Patiala House' in London last month, he was repeatedly asked by Sikh fans in Great Britain when they'd get to see him as Singh again.

Akshay immediately contacted Vipul from London and urged him to direct the sequel.

Says Akshay: "Yes, a lot of fans in the UK are eager to see us do a sequel to 'Singh Is Kinng'. And I've asked Vipul to get on with it."

There is only one hitch. Singh's queen Katrina is completely booked till next year. And the sequel cannot be made without her.

Laughs Vipul: "She won't let me or Akshay make it without her. We'll just have to see how her dates are worked out."

Mani’s Raavana halts Vipul’s Action Replay

The most talked about film of Bollywood is Raavana, directed by Mani Ratnam.

But the busy schedule of the film is keeping Aishwarya Rai away, and she is not being able to give time to Action Replay with Khiladi Kumar Akshay. The film is being directed by Vipul Shah and is reportedly based on the Hollywood film, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Hence Vipul’s plans to release his film in October has been hindered.

Confirming the news, Vipul spoke in print ‘Yes, what you have heard is true. I just need fifteen more days from Aishwarya to shoot for three songs and I am sure even she is equally curious about it as I am. But, unluckily, Raavana has taken far more of her time than she had projected. In addition, she is also shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish, so I have no option, but to wait.’

Vipul who crated magic with Aki in Namste London is hopeful of getting Aishwarya’s dates towards the end of September. Nevertheless, they wouldn’t be adequate as he also needs to shoot with her in November. Also, her dates will have to be coordinated with Akshay, who is another busy chap.

However Vipul says ‘Both Aishwarya and Akshay are very professional and I am hoping a solution soon for it from all of us. And Akshay is also the co-producer of Action Replay; he has an added inducement to give me his dates.’

Taking about the release of Action Replay Vipul says, ‘Now I think it will only be possible next year as there is lot to shoot for the film and then there is other post-production work to be carried. I had initially planned the release in October which was later pushed to December first week. The film will be completed on time but it will not release this year.’

Vipul’s considerate behavior towards Akki is widely known and the other reason why he does not want to release his Action Replay this year is, Akshay’s De Dana Dan is releasing on November 27 and you can’t have two Akki films competing. Another reason for the delay in Action Replay is that Vipul's other film London Dreams releases on October 30.

Vipul rebukes Ash for latecoming!

After Aishwarya Rai repeatedly reported late to the sets of Action Replay, director Vipul Shah decided to teach her the importance of punctuality.

A source said, “Aishwarya would always come late to the sets. On days when she came on time, she would spend most of her time doing up her hair, make-up and clothes while everybody kept waiting for her. The entire schedule of the shoot would get disrupted.”

The unit is shooting with Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya at ND Studios, Karjat. “Vipul is extremely particular about shooting the scenes aesthetically. He was fed up of waiting for hours for Aishwarya. Surprisingly, he made his dismay very clear on the sets a few days ago,” said a source.

Ta l k i n g about the particular incident, the source said, “That day, Aishwarya came to the sets, changed into her costume, did her make-up and hair and was ready to shoot. After the entire process, which took her several hours, Vipul shot precisely for a minute before declaring pack-up. Aishwarya was aghast that Vipul had made her get ready only to shoot with her for a minute. She openly expressed her displeasure to which Vipul shot back, ‘Apne sets pe sab time par aate hain aur sab time par jaate hain.’ This was a clear indication of how irritated Vipul was.”

As expected, Vipul denied our story and said, “This is totally false. Aishwarya has an extraordinary look in the film. We always knew it would take time for her to get ready because of which we had planned the shoots accordingly. We have not had any delays because of her. In fact, she is working 15 hours every day for my film. She is extremely professional and I am delighted to be working with her.”

"Suddenly there is a whole mission to 'Kill Akshay'" - Vipul Shah

Chandni Chowk To China may not have taken a huge opening as was expected out of it. However, a large section of media has chosen to target Akshay Kumar and have started writing obituaries about him. Unreasonable as it may sound; the backlash seems to be completely uncalled for, especially for a man who till about a fortnight back was hailed as 'the darling of the masses'. Vipul Shah, Akshay's friend, director and producer, gets into a freewheeling chat with Joginder Tuteja and shares his views about the reasons that have perhaps led to such 'venom being spewed on Akshay Kumar' (in his own language). Over to Vipul!

Mission 'Target Akshay'

"I think the only thing that Akshay has done wrong is that he has never been a part of any camp. He has never picked up any favorites with media or has tied up with journalists (it's a shame that some of them are called journalists). Unfortunately he is not a part of any politics and believes in the policy of 'do your work and go home'. Today, when people are getting an opportunity to tarnish and target him, he doesn't have people to defend him. Everyone is clearly having a field day."

All HITS forgotten?

"And by the way, why are we forgetting that he is the same man who in the last 3 years has seen 21 films of his getting released out of which 17 have been hits. He is the most consistent actor, star and a lot more than that. Just because one film of his doesn't take a kick start as expected, people out there have started making judgments. It's like Sachin Tendulkar failing in one innings and people saying that he should retire! See, these kinds of elements are always there and neither Akshay nor any of his directors or producers would be bothered about it."

Of course Akshay is disappointed!

"Akshay is extremely concerned about the kind of backlash coming towards him and the film. He is feeling at a certain level that despite what media has to say about the film, his audience should not feel let down. It can happen to the best of the people but the way stories are being generated, it seems as if Akshay has almost finished the entire industry with just one film. What are we smoking? It's really sad! People should realize that he is the only actor who does 4 films a year and still sees so much of success. Now today, if you want to crucify him then well, only God can help you."

The 'J' factor at play?

"Jealousy - I guess that too has played a major role in the kind of backlash that is being generated. They feel that Akshay earns a lot of money and I have realized that in my interaction with people. They are jealous about him reaching this position and now they have got a chance to open their mouths. Well, do that as long as you don't misuse the freedom of expression. But please don't jump to conclusions. Otherwise it would be a shameful incident in Indian cinema when so-called underperformance of one film would lead to a select bunch of people trying to finish him off. Well, keep trying because ultimately audience would anyways come to see his next film."

Why are we demoralizing the industry?

"While media and some people with vested interest are targeting a man who has come up to such a level through so many hardships in life and done something that people can only dream to achieve, they are only demoralizing others in the industry. Akshay is a man who has come from nowhere and created a space for himself. Today, you want to ignore all his hard work put for so many years; the ton loads of entertainment he has provided to millions out there. Show me one actor whose film hasn't lived up to expectations. When you see CC2C, Akshay has tried his best. Now may be you like the film or not is a different question but can you say that Akshay hasn't made an effort? There is a limit to what an actor can do!"

Akshay should retire? What nonsense!

"If you want to say that because of one film an actor should retire then I would say that please watch your mouth and language. Because I am so sure that Akshay would deliver a hit next, and that should be soon, and once that happens, the very same people would be touching his feet. That day is not far off! Suddenly there is a whole mission to 'Kill Akshay'. Well, let me tell you that he is much stronger a person that he won't die because of one CC2C. He won't vanish and instead would do a lot more for people. So please save your opinion because tomorrow you would be returning to him for an interview and a front page cover!"

It's not only about Akshay

"Yes, Akshay happens to be a very near person in my life but honestly speaking, Anyone including myself would've been disappointed if people would have talked in the same way. What disgusts me most is the attitude of some people in India who are targeting an actor. It is sad because at the time when the industry is not going through its best patch, we are not supporting each other. Seriously, we don't need enemies from outside when we have a good chunk of them from inside the industry. These are the people who are harming themselves. At the end of the day, this industry sees collective success and failure. If one film does well, it benefits 10 more films that are coming next. And if one fails, it impacts 10 more which are going to be released next."

Am I angry? No!

"I am not angry at the mischief makers; I am just analyzing the situation with a balanced approach and feeling sad at our outlook towards our colleagues. If we continue to have such an outlook in the times when the industry is not going through the best time then obviously our growth should be restricted. We pull each other down rather than supporting, hence we deserve to remain at a lower level. My point is, let's forget about Akshay and think about yourself. You are just damaging yourself!"

Akshay is not alone

"I can recount 100 such cases when someone has been pulled down so badly. A few months back, it happened to Himesh Reshammiya. Earlier, after Saawariya, Sanjay Leela Bhansali was said to be finished. Harman got to hear so much due to Love Story 2050. After Drona, Abhishek was written off and even though Dostana was a success, a large section of media didn't want to believe it earlier on but later relented. This is our cynicism at play and mind you, one film cannot make or break anyone. Forget a superstar; it could even be the case for a newcomer. Yes, I choose to be vocal about it because perhaps this is what the first time when it is not just backlash but venom being spewed out. I have never seen something like this before and I hope I don't see it ever again!"

Salman's Eid Party in London

Salman Khan threw an Eid party for the entire cast and crew of Vipul Amrutlal Shah's London Dreams. Interestingly, this will be the actor's first Eid away from his family. Every year, Khan throws a bash either at his Bandra flat or at his Panvel farmhouse.

Says a source present at Salman's bash, "Salman threw the party at his St James Court Hotel (Central London) suite. The menu was delicious. Says the source, "There were all kinds of Eid delicacies including mutton biryani, nawaabi biryani, mutton korma, all kinds of kababs and kheer, sheer korma and seviyaan for dessert. Even the normally reclusive Ajay Devgan who doesn't come for filmi bashes in Mumbai, came for Salman's party though he had to attend Cherie Blair's charity event that night. The party rocked till the wee hours. Salman and Ajay have been bonding in a big way while shooting for London Dreams in Paris and London."

The source adds, "It was an intimate party for about 25 people including producer-director Vipul Shah, co- producer Paramjeet Singh, Ajay Devgan and Asin but Salman made sure that the entire cast and crew including the film's DoP Sejal Shah was invited to the party. He personally invited everyone."

Singh Is Kinng bombs in Bihar

This has never happened before. A film that does extraordinary business all over the country and overseas has bombed in one specific area. Anees Bazmee's Singh Is Kinng is a flop in Bihar, an area where Akshay Kumar's films from Jaanwar to Hey Babyy have acquired a blockbuster status without batting an eyelid.

The reason for this incongruous occurrence? According to on one of Bihar's primary exhibitors, Suman Sinha, "The Punjabi dialogues songs and dances went against the film. The Bihar distributor paid a whopping amount of money to buy Singh Is Kinng and is now going to lose a hefty amount."

Producer Vipul Shah is aware of his blockbuster's tainted spot in Bihar. "I've heard that the 'Punjabiyat' and Sikh theme have gone against the film's success in Bihar. But I don't understand why. We were aware that some areas would reject the film's USP, namely the Sikh ambience. Surprisingly, the film has done extremely well even in Bengal where we thought the audience would've trouble connecting with the theme. There's really no explanation for what has happened to Singh Is Kinng in Bihar."

Interestingly, there have been instances of films that have bombed in the rest of the country doing well in Bihar like Hamesh Malhotra's Dulhe Raja and Riteish Deshmukh's debut film Tujkho Meri Kasam. But never has a world-wide hit been rejected in Bihar. Vipul Shah's and Anees Bazmee's films have always done well Bihar. And Jab We Met which also had large dollops of 'Punjabiyat' was a hit in the State.

Says Suman Sinha, "But Jab We Met didn't thrust the Bhangra culture up audiences' throats. Like it or not, the rest of the country is not as fond of Punjabi culture as Bollywood."

Vipul Shah's 'London Dreams' fetched 120 crores

Enough of hearsay, here's the first official confirmation… SINGH IS KINNG is past. Vipul Shah has moved on. He's all set to embark on his new venture, LONDON DREAMS. The film, as we all know by now, brings the HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM combination of Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan after a hiatus.

One of the hottest projects without doubt, LONDON DREAMS has caught the fancy of a number of corporate entities, but the one to bag the rights is Indian Films, the same firm that acquired SINGH IS KINNG for an astronomical amount. LONDON DREAMS too comes with a heavy price tag: Rs. 120 crores.

"Yes, that's the figure," Vipul Shah makes his first official statement, "We've [Indian Films and Vipul] shook hands, only the paper work has to be completed." Earlier, Vipul's SINGH IS KINNG set the record of being the most expensive film. Now his next film has set the bar higher!

B.O. update: Unprecedented, unparalleled, unheard of start for 'SIK'

The much-awaited SINGH IS KINNG has arrived like a thunderstorm. The craze for the film was evident last night, when paid previews across the nation were performed and the response was electrifying. Friday morning too opened to an overwhelming response. The morning and noon show collections everywhere, in Punjab, Rajasthan, C.P. Berar, Delhi-U.P., Nizam, Bengal, everywhere has been terrific. The distributors of all these circuits personally spoke to this writer and each of them was ecstatic, jumping with joy.

SINGH IS KINNG has had the widest release ever for a Hindi film. It has opened at 1700 screens worldwide [as per Studio 18], 1400 in India and 300 in Overseas. The opening weekend, as things stand now, should be in the range of Rs. 23cr. to Rs. 25 cr. nett in India and the first week should close at Rs. 42 cr. to Rs. 45 cr. nett in India. All signs of a Blockbuster!

Meanwhile, the film had a stupendous start in U.K. last night, when paid previews were held. The film collected close to £ 60,000 on Thursday night. Fabulous!

Singh Is Kinng - Movie Review

Just a word of caution before you watch this film: SINGH IS KINNG is not for the intellectuals or those pretending to be one. It's not for the hard-nosed critics either.

Vipul Shah. Anees Bazmee. Akshay Kumar. Katrina Kaif. Four names for whom success has become a habit. That makes SINGH IS KINNG the most awaited movie of the season. Must add, the wait was worth it!

You know the rules when you watch a hardcore entertainer: Just don't look for logic. If you do, too bad for you, for you would never enjoy a film of this genre and more specifically, SINGH IS KINNG.

Anees Bazmee's films are very high on entertainment. The plotline may be paper-thin, perhaps ludicrous and farcical, but when did Bazmee ever promise a SCHINDLER'S LIST or a SAVING PRIVATE RYAN? SINGH IS KINNG works because it delivers what it promises: Full on entertainment!

Bazmee has the knack of making immensely watchable fares that cater to the aam junta. SINGH IS KINNG isn't a laughathon in entirety. Comedy, romance, action and drama, everything is well synchronised in those 2.10 hours here.

But, wait, SINGH IS KINNG isn't a foolproof product. It has its share of flaws, the turn of events aren't captivating at times, but SINGH IS KINNG moves so fast and packs in so much, there's no time to think or analyze.

The final word? SINGH IS KINNG is a delicious and scrumptious pav-bhaji served in the finest cutlery. Your taste buds are sure to relish it... and ask for more!

Lakhan Singh aka Lucky [Sonu Sood] is the King of the Australian underworld, accompanied by his associates [played by Javed Jaffrey, Neha Dhupia, Manoj Pahwa, Yashpal Sharma, Kamal Chopra and Sudhanshu Pande]. Far away, in a small village in Punjab, where Lucky was born, there exists someone more notorious than him - Happy Singh [Akshay Kumar].

The village is fed up of Happy's magnanimity, which has resulted in a number of hilariously disastrous situations. Out of desperation, they decide to send him on a long trip [that will keep him out of the village for a while!] to bring Lucky back to Punjab, as his despicable deeds were maligning their image in Australia.

The happy-go-lucky bumpkin, taking his mission a bit too seriously, embarks on his journey, accompanied by his friend, Rangeela [Om Puri], who hates Happy for dragging him into it.

The high point of his journey is his chance meeting with Sonia [Katrina Kaif], with whom he falls in love, but upon reaching his destination, things take a precarious turn as he runs into a series of comic misadventures, leaving him penniless. He is fortunate to find warmth and affection in an elderly lady [Kirron Kher].

In a strange turn of events, an attempt on Lucky's life is foiled by a well-intentioned Happy, who fights off the attackers by risking his own life. Following the altercation, Lucky lands up in hospital paralyzed and Happy, unexpectedly, finds the tables turned on him when he is expected to assume the role of the new King.

Few minutes into the film and you know that SINGH IS KINNG is a lavish spectacle that's high on entertainment. Sonu Sood chasing a gora assassin at the very start or minutes later, Akshay chasing a hen - SINGH IS KINNG starts with gusto.

And Bazmee doesn't let you wear your thinking caps all through the first hour. From India to Egypt to Australia, from the comforts of his home in Punjab, to the humble abode of a woman selling flowers in Sydney [Kirron Kher], SINGH IS KINNG involves you in the journey.

And then Akshay becomes the King. Oh, how he becomes the King is equally hilarious. The sequence at the hospital [Sonu Sood is diagnosed with a weird disorder] is simply hilarious. There's a twist in the tale at the intermission point and the second hour, therefore, shifts gears - it changes from kabhi funny, kabhi drama to a prem kahani.

It's smooth sailing till there's another twist towards the pre-climax [wouldn't like to reveal it, since it would act as a spoiler]. But, frankly, the film could've done without this track. The narrative, thankfully, is back on tracks soon after.

Anees Bazmee has a flair for writing great entertainers that work big time with the masala-loving junta. If you've loved NO ENTRY and WELCOME, you'd love SINGH IS KINNG too. This time, Bazmee shares the writing credits with Suresh Nair and the duo come up with some real wacky episodes. In terms of production design, this is Bazmee's most lavish fare so far. It's a grandiose product.

Pritam's music is already popular and it compliments the goings-on completely. 'Bhootni Ke', 'Jee Karda' and the title track stand out, while 'Teri Ore' is easy on the nerves. Ben Nott and Sanjay Gupta's cinematography is top notch.

Akshay Kumar takes rapid strides with SINGH IS KINNG. Sure, you've seen him in comic fares time and again and perhaps, there might be a doubt, Will he carry it off yet again? Oh yes, he does! There's no saturation point as far as this actor is concerned. He holds your attention in every sequence, irrespective of how strong the scene is, and that's the biggest compliment for any actor. SINGH IS KINNG without Akki is like an ocean without marine life. Akshay rules!

The camera loves Katrina Kaif and it shows in SINGH IS KINNG too. She looks bewitching and enacts her part with tremendous confidence. Kirron Kher is superb and so is Om Puri. Terrific performances! They compliment Akki so well. Ranvir Shorey is first-rate. Sonu Sood is another actor who's finally getting his due in Hindi films. Javed Jaffrey's character works big time till he does a somersault in the pre-climax. Neha Dhupia is engaging. The nok-jhonk between Sudhanshu Pandey and Yashpal Sharma is perfect. Manoj Pahwa is good.

On the whole, SINGH IS KINNG lives up to the hype and hoopla. Want a joyride without taxing your brains? Board the SINGH IS KINNG wagon. At the box-office, the film will fetch a hurricane-like start. The paid previews, the opening weekend, the first week business, everything will be record-shattering. Notwithstanding the new oppositions in the weeks to come, SINGH IS KINNG will rule the hearts of the aam junta [whose verdict matters the most] as also the box-office, proving a record holder in the final tally. Blockbuster Hit!

Akshay's 12 hr Jet-Ski class for an action sequence in Singh Is Kinng

While shooting a scene in Singh Is Kinng on the Gold Coast, Akshay Kumar had to Jet Ski in deep water but realized that he would not be allowed to do so without an official license.

Producer Vipul Shah reveals, "It takes three days to get a jet-ski license but Akshay explained the time constraints. He did a three-day course in 12 hours. He got up at 6 am and got his license by 7 pm. He had to give a written and practical test. The action scene we have shot is one of the most expensive ones that Bollywood has ever seen and has been directed by Danny Baldwin." Akshay laughs, "Going through a theory and practical exam was like going back to school!"

Danny Baldwin is an incredibly popular stunts coordinator in Australia with over a hundred films and television series to his credit. He is even said to have worked with Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai and Michael Douglas in The Ghost And The Darkness.

Commenting on how he was approached, Shah says, "When we went for a reccee to Australia, we saw a lot of show-reels and met a lot of technicians. But we saw a clear synergy with Danny as his style of action was exactly what we needed. The beauty about the action in Singh is Kinng is that not only is it great to look at but makes the audience laugh as well."

Reacting to rumors that the glamour action in Singh Is Kinng resembles that of Dhoom 2, Vipul adds, "It is similar only in quality. These are very high-end action sequences. Akshay had to be very careful in certain sequences, for instance, the scene in which he had to jump from one moving lift to another without supporting cables. But Akshay is Akshay! He did it with much panache and agility. Enjoy watching it in the film!"

Akshay fights with WWE wrestlers in Singh Is Kinng

On the small screen, Akshay 'Khiladi' Kumar may be seen encouraging 13 beautiful ladies to do some daredevil stunts in his new reality show Fear Factor- Khatron Ke Khiladi. However, when it comes to the big screen, Akki himself would be seen doing some really brave stunts and action scenes in his forthcoming release Singh Is Kinng.

Bollywood's favorite action hero would be seen fighting with eight WWE wrestlers from Australia in an action sequence in Vipul Shah's Singh Is Kinng.


Says director Anees Bazmee," We had called some eight wrestlers who all are from WWE. They were all very excited to be a part of Singh Is Kinng. Apart from shooting with Akshay, they all spoke to him at length about his films. I was surprised that few of them had even seen his films. They all shared a very good rapport with Akshay and there was this very famous wrestler called Chris who even taught him some tricks in arm-wrestling."

Akshay sure has a special interest in WWE. A few years back, he had fought against famous the WWE wrestler 'The Undertaker' for a fight sequence in Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi. Now in Singh Is Kinng, he is seen fighting eight WWE wrestlers from Australia. One can't wait to see when Akshay will take on our very own- The Great Khali - (on screen of course). That would be one fight we can't wait to watch.

"No postponement of Singh Is Kinng" - Vipul Shah

There're murmurs that SINGH IS KINNG might be shifted ahead [by a week or two] since lead man Akshay Kumar hasn’t dubbed for the film. Akki has been living out of the suitcase for a while now [he's currently in Bahamas, shooting for BLUE] and hasn't had the time to fly to India to dub for the film. Perhaps, that may have triggered off this rumour.

However, SINGH IS KINNG producer Vipul Shah says that there's no question of postponing the film. But Akshay hasn't dubbed for the film, right? "Akshay is dubbing on 5th, 6th and 7th July in the U.S. In fact, Anees-ji [Bazmee] is leaving for U.S. on 3rd July to personally supervise the dubbing. We should be ready with the first print of the film by 20th July. We have ample time," he sounds relaxed.

Vipul continues in the same breath, "Even if we get late for some reason, the first print would be ready by 24th/25th, almost a week before 1st August – the date when the worldwide delivery of prints of SINGH IS KINNG are executed. Our film is definitely arriving on 8th August; there’re no changes absolutely."

Akshay and Dogg to shoot a video

Akshay Kumar is getting his kicks.

And this time it’s not with the martial arts at which he’s an expert, but rather with the kind of company he’s keeping.

BT had broken the news about his collaboration with American hip-hop superstar Snoop Dogg (who pioneered the ascendance of West Coast ‘g-funk’ rap) on a track for Vipul Shah’s Singh is Kinng. Now, the ante is upped by two steps. Snoop Dogg (also behind albums like Doggystyle and Tha Blue Carpet Treatment) and Akshay will shoot a video for the song at the cost of almost Rs 7 crores.

“The video is being shot by Snoop Dogg’s team and will be lavish. There hasn’t been this kind of collaboration between a big international music artist and Bollywood. If you see it in a wider context, this is very important synergy. The video and song will be on mainstream music platforms across the globe. Snoop’s presence will mean the audience base is much larger,” said Shah.

Has Snoop seen any of Akshay’s moves? “Yes, he has seen videos of Akshay’s dances and is very excited,” stated Shah. Meanwhile, Akshay is chuffed at the project himself. “The song has really turned out very well and I like it very much. It will be fun to shoot the video with a rapper of Snoop Dogg’s calibre. I have seen his videos and he is very impressive,” said Akshay.
Snoop was unavailable for comment, but a spokesperson for the superstar said, “Our entire team is is thrilled about the video as it will be something new for all of us. It will have Bollywood elements and we have seen a lot of Akshay Kumar’s songs to prepare for it.”

Singh Is Kinng gets a clean chit from Sikh Authorities

Singh Is Kinng, directed by Aneez Bazmi starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, was in the news regarding a non-existing controversy. In order to clear the rumors and know the whole truth, We spoke to Vipul Shah and here is what he had to say.

"To begin with there was no controversy. Yesterday, a newspaper had carried an article suggesting some issues surrounding Singh Is Kinng. Apparently, the article stated that Akshay's look in the film had created resentment in the Sikh community. So in order to clear the air we had a special screening for some prestigious authorities of the Sikh community, including, Dr. Gurbachan Singh Bachan (University of Mumbai), Kulwant Singh (Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Dadar, Mumbai), Parbinder Singh (Sikh Brotherhood) S. Swaranjeet Singh (Sikh Media Watch), Sardar Manmohan Singh (Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Dadar, Mumbai), Manmeet (Actor and Model), and Jaspal Singh (Sikh Sangat of Mumbai). Now there were certain areas they suggested correction, which have been taken care of, Akshay has re-shot several scenes. But its impossible to do the whole film again," says Vipul.

"Some crucial scenes were re-shot and they have given it a clean chit now. The press conference wherein Akshay, Aneesji, the Sikh Authorities, and I were present was to clear this confusion regarding the film. Akshay will be sporting a beard throughout the film like a proper Sikh," adds Vipul.

Singh Is Kinng also starring Neha Dhupia, Sonu Sood, Sudhanshu Pandey, Ranvir Shorey, Kirron Kher, and Om Puri will release worldwide on 8 August 2008.

Vipul Shah's Singh Is Kinng has highest ever music sale in more than a decade. Sources close to the production house reveal that the sales for a limited period of time have been for whopping Rs 13.5 crore. Says Sandeep Bharghava of Indian Films, "This is a landmark valuation and we are very proud to be associated with the biggest films of 2008 – Singh is Kinng and Ghajini. We are very sure the music will do very well".

Indian Films, who own the worldwide rights of Singh is Kinng, have sold the music rights to Times Music. Says Adarsh Gupta of Times Music, "Having tasted humongous success with one of the biggest grosser of 2007 in the Hindi film category, Welcome, we are now signing on what is believed to be the biggest hit of 2008 with Singh is Kinng."

Music industry has been going through a lot of turbulent times and had hit the slumber in revenues. Average music sales were less than Rs 3 cr and even a talked about project like Shahrukh Khan's Om Shanti Om had gone for Rs 7 cr.

If the music sale of Singh is Kinng is any indication then the music valuations are back and how.

Says Vipul Shah, the producer of Singh is Kinng, "Akshay Kumar has been commanding a huge draw, whether it would be the box office, satellite or music are concerned. I am not surprised at all."
