Kal Kis(i)ne Dekha?

The male protagonist of the movie has the gift of clairvoyance. We wish the makers had it too; to fore-see the disaster this movie is! Really, didn't anyone notice that the movie was trash while making it?

Nihal SIngh from Chandigarh (Jackky Bhagnani) has the gift of seeing the future and he is obsessed with science. So he comes to Mumbai to study at a university called Science College (seriously). There he makes friends with the nerds and is ragged by Kabir (Akshaye Kapoor) and hottie Meesha (Vaishali Desai). Two-faced professor Verma (Rishi Kapoor) becomes the naive boy's mentor. With his gift, he wins the heart of the hottie and her gang. All is well until he has the responsibility of foiling the plans of some terrorists, led by Marshall (Rahul Dev) and his sidekick, played by wannabe Rachna Shah (her name wasn't mentioned).

Now here comes the fun part of ripping the movie apart. I was lucky enough to go with my mother and we had a ball laughing at how silly and ridiculous the movie was. Vivek Sharma shouldn't make movies anymore as he has no sense of direction. Sample this, towards the end of the movie, when the hero has to find the heroine and the location of the bombs, he starts crooning Tere Bina, which is a patchwork of the songs and scenes from the movie. The cast breaks into a song every 15 minutes and they aren't very nice songs. His gift has a mind of its own; it does not save him from being beaten up by the villains and sometimes his vision comes too late. So what is the point?

Every scene is a showcase of Jackky's skills.The bike race and edge of the cliff scene was a chance for him to show off his biking skills and that he isn't afraid of heights, the songs to show that he can dance, etc.

At one point, my mom commented that it was worse than a 70's film. Riteish's and Rajpal Yadav's cameos are downright annoying.

Then there is the done-to-death dialogue of 'dil over dimaag' and 'science needs an explanation for everything.'

This is Rishi Kapoor's trashiest role to date. His fans will be heart-broken and disappointed when they see it. We wonder why he did this movie.
The college, hostel and locations are beautiful. The picturesque locales of New Zealand, Bangkok and Pune all make up Mumbai. The makers expect us to believe that!

Jackky Bhagnani is confident and cute. He has a bright smile and looks very tall and thin. He has an amiable screen presence and acts well. Fair, lovely and leggy Vaishali Desai looks very pretty and enacts her character well. None of them can be taken seriously, just hand-over your candyfloss and make them act.

This is the first film to release after the strike, but the theatre was half full and the audience comprised mainly of media people and their relatives. My mother just happened to tag along for a breath of fresh air-conditoned air. She was missing the popcorn and soda I guess.

Kal Kissne Dekha is a brain-dead, non-entertainer which jumps from one scene to another without an explanation. It is a waste of the producer's and your money. Don't bother seeing it. Kal I don't know about, but aaj I will shamelessly deny having seen this film.

Jackky to perform in IIFA

Vashu Bhagnani is doing everything possible to set the stage for his son's launch pad. On the eve of release of his debut film KAL KISSNE DEKHA, Jackky Bhagnani would be flying to Macau and perform at International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards.

Confirms Vashu, ''Yes, Jackky would be performing at IIFA awards. In fact we would also be hosting a preview of the movie for friends and other film celebrities at the same venue on either 11th or 12th June. We will ensure that it turns out to be a landmark evening for Jackky, Vaishali and our film.''

Debutant leading lady Vaishali Desai too would be accompanying Vashu and Jackky. She will join Jackky on stage to perform on the songs of KAL KISSNE DEKHA that have been tuned by Sajid-Wajid.

For the two newcomers, it would indeed be a huge platform since others expected to perform at 10th IIFA awards are bigwigs like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor along with Sonam Kapoor (who would be making her stage debut at IIFA).

As always, the show is all set to be a high profile event, what with Amitabh Bachchan gracing the event with his mighty presence and Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Boman Irani playing the role of hosts.

''I am doing all to bring Jackky to the audience'', says the proud father, ''Now it's time for audiences to reach out to him once KAL KISSNE DEKHA releases all over on 12th June.''

It was special when Kareena held my hand

He may be disappointed with his debut film "Kal Kissne Dekha" being delayed, but newcomer Jackky Bhagnani perks up when he recalls the special moment he shared with childhood friend Kareena Kapoor last week.

In Ahmedabad for a concert to promote his upcoming film, Jackky was nervous until Kareena assured him that everything would be all right.

"I couldn't have been more thankful to her that particular evening when I had to step up on stage in front of a 25,000-strong crowd. I was extremely nervous and was wondering whether I would be able to crack the show till Kareena gave me a helping hand," Jackky told IANS.

He is currently on a six-city tour to promote his debut film, which is a musical thriller.

"She supported me at every step that evening. She calmed me down even as I openly told her that I was very nervous. She simply told me that 'Jackky, you are a nice dancer, just go with the flow and leave yourself to the beats'," he said.

"It was especially sweet of her when she held my hand after the show and introduced me to the public. I will cherish that moment forever because Kareena has been a great friend during my growing up years. However, now it was a superstar actress bringing a newcomer in front of the audience. It couldn't have been bigger," said Jackky, who admits that during the last three years he wasn't really in touch with Kareena.

"We grew up together as kids. Her sister Karisma has worked in a number of movies with dad ('Coolie No. 1', 'Hero No. 1', 'Biwi No. 1'). We all share a great relationship personally as well as professionally. However, even though we were not in touch, she was sweet enough to be just a call away when we requested her to make it for the show," said Jackky.

Added dad Vashu Bhagnani: "The show was a huge success. As the three-hour long show started warming up, close to 25,000 people assembled there to watch the performance. In fact, they got crazy when Kareena and Jackky got together for 'Mauja hi mauja' and 'Marjaani'."

The release date of the film, which was to open in theatres on May 29, has not yet been finalised because of the tiff between producers and multiplex owners over revenue sharing.

Starring debutant Vaishali Desai as the leading lady, "Kal Kissne Dekha" also features Rishi Kapoor and Akshay Kapoor in principal roles with Sanjay Dutt in a special appearance.

Vashu Bhagnani obeys Aamir's orders; postponess son's debut release

Once, Aamir Khan takes up a cause, he sees it through. Last week, the actor called producer Vashu Bhagnani and talked him out of his plans of defying the strike against the multiplexes so he could release his son Jackky Bhagnani's debut film Kal Kissne Dekha.

According to eyewitnesses, Vashu, who has been going all out to market and promote his son's debut film for a May 29 release, got a call in the middle of a show in Ahmedabad on Thursday night.

Vashu was seen having a long, earnest conversation while Kareena performed. Apparently, that conversation changed the entire course of Vashu's plans.

Vashu, who was adamant about releasing his son's film on May 29, now says, "I will never go against the wishes of the film fraternity. My son's release is important. But the film industry is far more important." Vashu admits he changed his mind after a long conversation with Aamir.

"He called and enquired if he had heard correctly about my son's film's release on May 29. Yes, he was a little concerned. I can't reveal all the details of our conversation. But yes, I told him if he wants, I'll postpone the film."

This, after pouring so much time, effort, energy and money into the debutant's marketing?

"Why not? We've planned events all over the country. Those, I see as promotions for my son. Not for his film. And even if I lose a lot of money in publicity, I'll postpone the May 29 release if Aamir and the rest of the producers' forum decides to."

Ahmedabad goes crazy for Kareena

Kareena Kapoor won't forget her first trip to Ahmedabad for a long time. The actress was quite rattled when hundreds of fans rushed towards the stage while she was performing at a show in the city.

Thousands of star-struck fans swarmed the Karnavati Club when they got to know the event organised by producer Vashu Bhagnani to promote his son Jackky's debut "Kal Kissne Dekha" would feature Kareena.

The fans were excited even when Sophie Chowdhary danced with Jackky for the event on Thursday (May 21) evening. But all hell broke loose when Kareena came on stage for a medley of her hit songs. Hundreds of Kareena's fans ran towards her on stage, but thankfully she was whisked away in time.

A shaken Vashu Bhagnani said: "It's true. Ahmedabad went crazy for Kareena. We expected a huge turn-out at the Karnavati Club, but not this much...30,000 people showed up! And when Kareena came on stage they lost control. About 400 people rushed to the stage. Fortunately we whisked her out of the back entrance. So nothing untoward happened."

Bhagnani says he is indebted to Kareena. "She took on these frenzied fans for my son's sake. Who says this film industry is heartless? Kareena is all heart."

In fact, after the Ahmedabad incident Vashu had reservations about asking Kareena to be part of the next Vashu-Jackky show in Delhi on May 27. But Kareena is adamant.

Said Kareena: "Yeah it did get pretty tricky at a point. Yeh sab hota hai. It was my first visit to Ahmedabad. I performed a medley of my best songs choreographed by Remo. It was for Vashu-ji's son. How can I forget he gave me my first big hit 'Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai'? When his son is entering films it's my duty to support him."

The unruly fans rattled her, but she was pleasantly surprised when a large number of little girls descended at the performance venue dressed as her character Geet in hit film "Jab We Met".

"It simply zapped me. I completely forgot the heat of Ahmedabad when I saw those girls. It will be a long time before I'm allowed to forget Geet in 'Jab We Met'," Kareena said.

Vashu postpones 'Kal Kissne Dekha'

There's a dramatic twist in the producers/distributors versus multiplexes tale. Vashu Bhagnani's film KAL KISSNE DEKHA, which was slated for release on 29th May, has been shifted ahead, to some time in June. The release date is uncertain, as of now.

Vashu had decided to release the film in single screens and standalone multiplexes the coming Friday [29th May], standing by the directive issued by his association. But there were rumours throughout the week that Vashu had decided "to break the unity" by releasing the film at the national chain of multiplexes.

In fact, there was talk that the national chain of multiplexes were trying hard to convince Vashu to release the film in their properties, in view of the fact that KAL KISSNE DEKHA happens to be Vashu's son Jakky Bhagnani's film.

But Vashu has decided to put an end to all controversies and postpone the film, till the issue with multiplexes is sorted out. When this writer spoke to Vashu on Saturday afternoon [23rd May], the prolific producer confirmed the development, "Yes, KAL KISSNE DEKHA is not arriving on 29th May. I've decided to release the film after 2 or 3 weeks. I just hope that a solution comes out in a couple of days."

Vashu has spent a fortune publicising the film and now that the film has been shifted ahead, Vashu will have to spend an additional amount to keep the promotion in the same gear.

'Xclusive: Kareena roots for Jackky

Jackky Bhagnani's debut vehicle Kal Kissne Dekha to release in multiplexes

Strike or no strike, Jackky Bhagnani's debut venture Kal Kissne Dekha would be seeing a multiplex release. The only difference being that if the producers v/s multiplex stand off clears up by 29th May, the day when the film would eventually release, Kal Kissne Dekha would arrive on national chain multiplexes as well. However, if that doesn't happen, it would be coming at standalone multiplexes.

"Which is not a bad deal at all", Vashu says in film's defence, "Why do we continue to believe that there are only a handful of multiplexes in the country? If we discount the list of multiplexes that have a nationwide chain, there are quite a few independent multiplexes out there where Kal Kissne Dekha would be releasing."

The father-producer has another reason not to be overtly worried about the availability of multiplexes. "In any case Kal Kissne Dekha is not arriving at 1000 odd prints where you need horde of multiplexes to support your film", says Vashu who was known as the Man with the Midas touch for all the years when he was actively involved in filmmaking, "I would be giving a mid level release to the film and would gradually increase the print count as weeks would progress. Of course by that time if the strike is off, I would be happy to have the film release across all multiplexes."

So what's the print count that he currently has in mind? "Around 250 physical prints with some additional digital prints", he informs, "There is no point flooding the market. It's better for a newcomer hero and heroine to get some buzz created around them once they are seen for the first time on screen and then in turn make people ask for more. I expect the same for Kal Kissne Dekha as well."

Also marking the launch of Vaishali Desai as the leading lady of the film, Kal Kissne Dekha is directed by Vivek Sharma who earlier made his debut with Amitabh Bachchan starrer Bhoothnath. The film was earlier slated for release in the month of April but was pushed for a later date due to producers strike.

However, even as industry prays for the two parties to come up with a resolution soon, Vashu Bhagnani has intensified the promotion of the film and is going all out to ensure that there is adequate awareness being created around the 29th May release of the film.

May 29 onwards, flims to releases at single screens

The United Producer and Distributor Forum (UPDF) have finally decided that they won't wait for the multiplexes to meet them mid-way on the revenue-sharing issue. The UPDF has now released a series of notifications through a trade magazine in the past week telling the producers that the new movies will be all set to release as early as this month-end.

A trade source reveals, "The UPDF and multiplexes have been at loggerheads for a while now. Last week, it had seemed that the deadlock between the two parties would be called off. But after both parties couldn't get to an agreement on the profit-sharing issue, the meeting was called off abruptly. After the meet, the producers had an informal get-together and decided that they would be releasing films May 29 onwards."

The source further adds, "All the films will be released in single screens and the promotions of the film which had come to a standstill will start once again soon. Another major thing the producers have decided is that there will be only solo releases and every film will have a two-week breathing time and no new film can release two weeks after a film has released. This will allow all the films to grow on the audiences and will showcase the unity of the producers."

The first film, which will release after the suspension is Vashu Bhagnani's Kal Kissne Dekha and from then on, films like New York, Hadippa, Shortkut, Luck, Jashn, Love Aaj Kal, Kambakkht Ishq, Kaminey, Agyaat and Main Aur Mrs Khanna and finally, Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani will make their way to the single screens till the UPDF doesn't reach an agreement with multiplexes.

That seems to be Vashu Bhagnani’s mantra as he shrugs away the producer strike and goes to promote his son’s, Jackky, debut film, Kal Kissne Dekha Hai.

The film’s release may be stalled due to the dispute but than isn’t stopping him from getting people’s attention. He goes on to say that although he might be spotted all over town promoting Kal Kissne Dekha Hai, he is supporting the producers in their agitation against the multiplexes.

Apparently, Vivek Sharma has the gift of visions that helps him see future events, and that's what Jacky's character in this movie does as well.
