Divya Dutta makes love to Kitu Gidwani!

She may have shocked audiences as the foulmouthed rag picker in Delhi-6 but Divya Dutta’s next character is even bolder- she has a lesbian love scene with her costar Kitu Gidwani in her next film Monica. And to add to her risqué résumé, the actress also shares a steamy moment with Irrfan Khan in Hisss.

Talking about her role in Monica, directed by Sushen Bhatnagar, Divya says, “My character in the film is an opportunistic woman who is very bold and ready to do whatever it takes to overcome obstacles that comes in the way of her success. So the lesbian scene with Kitu was just a part of that story and it was needed.”

But shooting for the scene wasn’t all smooth sailing for the girls. Divya says, “Initially, there were a few hassles but then the director discussed the scene with Kitu and me and everything was cleared out.”

Unfazed by the scene, Divya takes it as part and parcel of being an actress. She says, “It’s not like it’s something new or it has not been done in films earlier. As an actor, I feel that one grows with each film and that is what I have been doing since I began my career. I have improved myself by doing different roles in each film.”

She adds, “Monica is a very special film to me; you can say it is really close to my heart. As far as the bold scene in the film is concerned, it was handled so perfectly that there was no awkwardness created for me or Kitu. It was done aesthetically and I am happy with my character. Kitu and I trust the director and he has done a very clean job.”

And clearing the air on her so called controversial scene in the international film Hisss, directed by Jennifer Lynch, Divya says, “There is nothing controversial in it at all. I have a kissing scene with Irrfan Khan in the film- that’s it. That too was very professionally done. When the story demands it, I try to play my character to the fullest, including acting out these scenes. It’s as simple as that. In both, Hisss and Monica, the directors have been so good and clear that it wasn’t hard to enact these scenes at all.”

Abuse hurtling, steamy kisses and lesbian scenes; do controversial roles seek out Divya or is it the other way around?

Divya says, “It’s not as if I have done it because I wanted to. It was all in the script of the film! Times have changed and viewers are more mature now. The characters I played demanded these scenes and I am happy with the way they have been done.”
