Swine Flu scares Stars

Swine Flu is on the rise and has gripped the country in fear. Bollywood too has come on a standstill, as Karan Johar recently cancelled the shoot of his film Kurbaan, starring Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor in Pune due to the deadly scare. We spoke to a few celebrities to know how well informed they are about the pandemic and what precautions are they taking to prevent themselves from swine flu.

Raima Sen:
The situation is very scary and is a matter of dire concern. But being in this profession, one can’t sit back at home and avoid work, I have already ordered for masks and hand sanitizers. One should avoid going to malls and theatres during this time, try your level best to stay away from crowded places. Teach your staff and friends about the flu and carry a handkerchief with you at all times.

Luke Kenny:
I’m keeping myself updated on the information regarding swine flu. And I am every vigilant when in public places. Avoid tactile contact no more than necessary and eat only home-cooked food.

Amitabh Bachchan:
Big B spoke of the flu scare at his grand daughter Navya Naveli’s school and the media apathy concerning the flu in the country on his blog, 'Navya’s School in Delhi rang in late last night to say a girl in the 6th standard had tested positive for Swine Flu and that the School had been shut and all the kids were instructed to stay home. The little girl student is in the same year as Navya but in a different section of class. Obviously this has created an alarming situation for the families of all the children.'

‘The electronic media apparently, instead of demonstrating calm and caution has been only concentrating on the alarming aspect of the disease, by repeatedly showing the extreme case of a young girl that sadly a week ago as a first case, succumbed to the illness in the city,” he signed off.

Kareena Kapoor:
A source close to the actress revealed, “Kareena was the one who forced director Rensil D’Silva to call off the shoot in Pune due to the Swine Flu scare. She has just a few portions to shoot but does not want to take any risks and put her point forward to Rensil and Karan.” Kareena had even gone on to tell the press that she will not shoot in Pune until the situation is under control and prevention of the disease is better than the cure itself.

Mallika Sherawat:
Even while in the U.S, Mallika isnt oblivious to the scare in home town, the actress tweeted on social networking site Twitter, ‘Swine Flu is a threat to life and one should inform him/herself about the symptoms and the cautionary methods of preventing himself from the flu.’ The actress then added a link to her page about all things informing about the virus.

What is Swine Flu?

Swine flu, otherwise known as pandemic influenza H1N1 2009, is a disease caused by a virus that affects the respiratory system.Any person with flu like symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, cold, running nose etc. should go to a designated Government facility for giving his/her sample for testing for the H1N1 virus. After clinical assessment, the designated medical officer would decide on the need for testing. Except for cases that are severe, the patient would be allowed to go home. The swine flue virus is mainly from one person to another through droplets released during coughing or sneezing. You can also get infected when you touch surfaces or hold objects contaminated with the virus. It can be door handles, tissue paper, handkerchief or hands.

Preventive Measures

Regularly wash hands with soap and water

Keep a distance of at least one step from an infected person or person with any of the symptoms to avoid contract with the influenza droplets

If you make contact with a sick person or with a potentially infected surface, please do not touch eyes, nose or mouth until you wash your hands with soap

Avoid close contact with a sick person and refrain from handshaking, kissing or hugging

Be active at all times, drink plenty of fluids, eat well, reduce stress and have enough sleep

ROCK ON!! with JAANE TU... YA JAANE NA

While there have been issues in the recent past, whereby trailors of upcoming films have not been included in the prints of new films, or added after much deliberations, here is a totally opposite case, which should set new precedents!

Producer Aamir Khan has proved to be a genuine friend of new actor, though highly successful director (DIL CHAHTA HAI, LAKSHYA and DON), Farhan Akhtar and also of producer Ritesh Sidhwani.

Apparently, Aamir Khan himself asked producer Ritesh Sidhwani to include the promo of his film ROCK ON!!, in the prints of Aamir's forthcoming production venture, JAANE TU... YA JAANE NA. After getting the nod, Aamir has gone ahead and the promos of ROCK ON!! can be seen this Friday, during the screening of JTYJN.

As may be recalled, Aamir Khan had acted in Ritesh's DIL CHAHTA HAI, which was Farhan Akhtar's directorial debut venture.

Rockers Ahoy!

Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Rock On, directed by Abhishek (Gattu) Kapoor, will be having a series of rock concerts in four major cities of the country, as part of the film's promotion. Rock On stars Arjun Rampal, Farhan Akhtar, Luke Kenny, Prachi Desai, and Purab Kohli.

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani confirms, "Yes we are looking at an option where we will have a series of concerts starting from August (Rock On releases on August 29) across Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata and Hyderabad. They will be known as Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy Rock On concerts with Farhan singing live the songs of Rock On and the rest of the cast joining him on stage. Currently, we are working on the venues and logistics."

It was Abhishek Kapoor's idea to make the lead actor actually sing and not just lip-sync the songs. "Farhan plays the guitar and after every shoot we would sit and jam with him. So this role was right up his alley and him actually singing makes it more authentic."

It was director Abhishek Kapoor's idea to make the lead actor to actually sing and not to lip-sync the songs.

Ritesh continues, "The film's music will be launched on July 7 at Infinity Mall in Andheri where Farhan will sing live. The rest of the cast and the music directors Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy will also be present. It's a different way of marketing and promoting the film.

As the film revolves around a rock band, we thought a series of rock concert would work in branding the film and since Farhan has sung five out of the nine songs in the album it would also be an interesting way of promoting the film.

Farhan Akhtar adds, "I'm very excited and yet nervous about performing in front of live audiences. I have only done jam sessions at home with my friends. But yes, I'm growing with confidence everyday thanks to an amazing and brilliant teacher in Shankar who has been giving me voice training exercises. I don't know if I'll become an actual rockstar or not as people make stars. But yes, I'm confident about singing at these rock concerts today."

About Rock On
Farhan plays the lead singer of the rock band while Arjun, Purab and Luke are the instrumentalists of the band. Rock On is a story about the friendship of these four friends. Music plays an important role in their lives and their journey 10 years up and down. It's male bonding like Dil Chahta Hai but in a different way, surroundings and situation.

Farhan Akhtar ROCK(s) ON at 3000 theatres!

What comes to mind when one mentions two very important names of the film industry, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar together? Obviously, its super successful films like DIL CHAHTA HAI, LAKSHYA and DON-THE CHASE BEGINS AGAIN, where Ritesh was the producer and Farhan Akhtar the director.

However their upcoming venture ROCK ON witnesses a startling change. The good looking son of Javed Akhtar dons the mantle of an actor but Ritesh still remains the producer. The movie which will be Farhan's first film as an actor is directed by Abhishek Kapoor (Gattu) and it also co-stars Arjun Rampal, Luke Kenny, Sahana Goswami etc.

In a bid to promote Farhan's debut venture as an actor, the posters of ROCK ON have already been put up across 3000 cinemas worldwide and is drawing considerable interest among cine goers. The Excel Entertainment/Films production will however release only on the 29th of August 2008.
