Katrina Kaif : Fever Pitch!

Trust Katrina Kaif to be a thorough professional. The actress was down with heavy viral fever during the IIFA Awards held in Bangkok recently. The doctors had advised her complete bed rest. The organisers wondered whether Katrina would be able to live up to her commitment and perform live for the event.

In fact, taking the doctor's advice into consideration the organisers too suggested that Kats should just take it easy and not perform at the show. But Kats being Kats, popped in some antibiotics and was on the go! It was all rock and roll from then on.

Retracting from a commitment was out of question for her. And the kind of performance Kats dished out, not once did the onlookers come to know that Kats was completely under the weather, Looking as fresh as the morning dew, she not only had the audience on her side, but also the producers and directors who were stunned by her professionalism.

Looks like it's the offers that are now 'heating up' for the lovely Katrina.

Akshay’s spoof act doesn’t go down well with Adi

Bangkok: Akshay Kumar's IIFA act on Tashan hasn't gone down too well with producer Aditya Chopra. Even though Akshay performed on a medley of his hits that led to the Singh is Kinng final act, he opened with a skit spoofing his last release Tashan.

It is learnt that Akshay made his entry on stage clad in a turban and a long coat. He burst through the ceiling and sliding through a poster that says, 'My last film' and the words 'Flop' written all over it. After crashing through the poster Akshay goes on to humour the fact that Tashan flopped and says, ""Maa meri film flop ho gayi hai ab mein kya karoon? Mera price kam ho jayega, no one will want to work with me... Maa ab mein kya karoon?"

Even though the act was in good humour and Akshay didn't name Tashan, it was obvious which film he was referring to. A source reveals that after Aditya heard about this specific act, called Akshay and told him it was in bad taste.

"Adi heard about the act after the award function got over. He wasn't too happy that Akshay was one of the actors who made fun of his own film. The failure of Tashan hasn't gone down too well with him and he doesn't really want to have any memories of the project."

Apparently, Akki who thought the whole act was done in good humour was surprised to get such a reaction from Adi. "IIFA was full of spoofs this year. Tashan wasn't the only film that was made fun of. The hosts Riteish Deshmukh and Boman Irani spoofed many films. However, Adi was peeved because Akshay himself participated in the act despite being a part of the cast."

Various sources also add that post Tashan, there have been cold vibes between Aditya and Akshay.

The Yash Raj Films spokesperson maintains, "Nothing of this sort has happened."

Not without my shampoo

Bangkok: Trouble appears to strike Tusshar Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor simultaneously. After their Bangkok traffic jam scare ('Stuck? Take a tuk tuk'; June 12), the duo faced problems at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi international airport on June 17.

Tusshar recalls, "I had been travelling continuously for three days. I arrived in Mumbai on June 15, shot for Life Partner and flew off to Bangkok the next morning for Golmaal Returns. Since I had to come back on the 17th, I only carried my handbag with me with essential accessories like shampoo, conditioner, one set of clothes, make-up remover and hair accessories as I have darkened my hair in Golmaal Returns."
Bebo was also travelling on the same flight.

When the two Kapoors reached the airport they went through agonising moments. "The airport authorities confiscated my shampoo, conditioner and make-up remover as they are not allowed on the flight.

I hate losing things because you don't get the same brands everywhere. I was only allowed to keep my clothes and some other essentials. Bebo had some yoghurt containers which she had to throw away as they thought what we were carrying could be dangerous! Can you believe that?" Tusshar laughs.

Once they landed, they headed to the set of Golmaal Returns. "We shot the title promotional song. We stayed at the Royal Cliff Hotel and every night, we had a party binging on Japanese, Chinese and Indian food. There was an Indian cook who made mutton raan for us one night. In the morning we would all work out with Ajay Devgan, Kajol and Tanisha joining us."

Trouble in Bangkok

Khan got into a scrap with Sanjay Gupta’s nephew, Gautam Kohli, while in Bangkok

Fardeen Khan recently got into a scuffle with Sanjay Gupta’s nephew, Gautam Kohli (Gotti), Head of Marketing and Promotion at White Feathers, in the corridor of the Dusit Thani Hotel in Bangkok.

The fight happened after Sanjay Gupta’s party. Every year, on the second day of IIFA, Sanjay Gupta hosts a party. He has done so for his previous films Zinda and Plan too.

This year he held it for his next film, Acid Factory, at the swanky terrace of the Dusit Thani Hotel after the Fashion Extravaganza where the cast of the film walked the ramp.

Many people attended apart from the entire cast of Acid Factory, including the cast and crew of Shootout At Lokhandwala like Abhishek Bachchan (with Aishwarya Rai), Vivek Oberoi, Apoorva Lakhia, and other guests like Riteish Deshmukh, Manmohan Shetty, Harry and Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra.” Only Sunil Shetty was missing, as he wasn’t invited.

The source adds, “The party broke up at 4 am. After a few hours of partying, Fardeen, who is a part of Acid Factory, wandered into the lobby at around 5 am and started demanding for a car to go out.

Gautam politely asked the star son where he wanted to go, so he could instruct the driver. Fardeen misinterpreted the question as an inquisition and started shouting abuses at him, and then he pushed Gotti.

Soon they were in a scuffle and people in the lobby had to intervene and break them apart. Finally, FK got his car and he drove off in it.”

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta says cautiously, “I wasn’t there when this happened. I left after he party broke up at 4 am. I went to my room and slept.

Later, I heard that an argument had taken place between Fardeen and Gotti but these things happen at parties. There was no bashing up just some dhakkam-dhakki and it all got sorted out the next morning.”

It is believed that to make up for this nasty episode, Gupta gifted Gotti a holiday in Bangkok. Right now, he is there, getting over the trauma of being roughed up for no reason by the star son.

Saif return to IIFA in time to see Bebo receive her award

There has been a great deal of speculation whether Saif Ali Khan was present when ladylove Kareena Kapoor received the Best Actress trophy during the recent IIFA awards in Bangkok.

Onlookers had observed Saif rushing out of the event immediately after her dance performance. As a result, all sorts of buzz did the rounds about his hasty departure.

It is now learnt that Saif was present for Bebo’s big moment when she was receiving the award, thanks to a delayed flight!

Says a source, “The awards gala got off to a late start, so Saif could not wait for Bebo’s award as he had a flight to London to catch.

When he reached the airport, he was told that the flight was delayed by over three hours. As a result, he immediately returned to the IIFA venue and could catch Kareena bagging the award.”

Saif had specially flown in for a few hours from London, where he is shooting for Imtiaz Ali’s next project with Deepika Padukone.

Saif is also the producer of the film.

Adds the source, “When Saif returned from the airport, Kareena didn’t even know that he was back in the audience.

It was only when she began her performance that she saw him cheering for her.

She was pleasantly surprised. After her dance, Saif spent a few moments in Kareena’s green room and then rushed back to the airport again.”

"I’ll never forget my first stage performance." - Harman Baweja

The newcomer injures his leg before his first ever stage performance. Has now been advised to take it easy

Though every attempt was made to keep the near-calamity a secret, Harman Baweja had a serious accident hours before his first stage performance last week.

While rehearsing back stage in Bangkok, Harman slipped and fell. His entire right leg got stuck in an awkward and twisted position.

Harman recalls, “I had always imagined what it would be like if I got injured just before a performance.

But my first performance?! Come on, have mercy.” His first reaction was one of panic. “I felt something had definitely broken. My instant reaction was, ‘God! I won’t be able to go on stage. People will think I chickened out.’ ”

On seeing the leg black, bruised and swollen, Harman knew his worst fears had come true. “I sat staring at my leg and so did everyone else. ‘What now?’ was everyone’s thoughts as paramedics rushed in. I was in acute pain and I took a painkiller, which I had brought from Mumbai. I never travel without them. I don’t trust medicines in foreign countries. But that wasn’t enough.”

At this point in the behind-the-scene action magic happened. “A paramedic took out a spray and before I could protest, sprayed my leg profusely. The pain was gone!! My next question to the medicos was, if I danced would it injure my knee permanently? No way was I going on stage if I was going to have a troubled knee for the rest of my life. I was told that if I don’t dance, my leg would heal in two weeks and if I did it’d heal in a month. So I went on stage as per schedule with a paramedic standing out of stage range, just in case.”

Harman’s performance went through like a dream. “But after the accident, my woes didn’t end. Minutes before I went on stage, the button on my trousers broke. I quickly asked Priyanka’s designer Gavin to sew it back. But it didn’t hold. So I grabbed someone’s belt and just stuck it on. By then, I was determined to dance , no matter what.”

Did the bad leg force the newcomer to change/slow his rehearsed steps?

“Only once, just once I stopped for a second when I wasn’t supposed to. No one noticed. I danced to the best of my ability. The response was overwhelming. But I’ll never forget my first stage performance. Hopefully, the ones to follow will be smoother.”

At the moment, Harman is limping around with a leg-aid for his injured knee and thigh. “Not quite feeling like a war hero. But not feeling sorry for myself either.”

Bachchans Vs The Rest Of The Stars

At the IIFA awards in Bangkok, AbhiAsh went out of their way to woo Kareena and Vivek

It has been a Bachchans vs The Rest Of The Stars (read Aamir, Shatru, SRK, Kareena Kapoor etc) scenario for quite some time now. It now appears that they want to make peace with as many as they could, as was evident at the recently held IIFA awards in Bangkok.

Says a source, “Ever since Karisma Kapoor broke off with Abhishek Bachchan, the Kapoors and Bachchans haven’t been on talking terms. In fact, Abhishek kept refusing films with Kareena. But this time at Bangkok, a change was noticed in the Bachchans’ attitudes.

Kareena was shocked when she found herself being invited to an informal get-together in Abhishek and Ash’s room at 3am! Abhishek was very warm and gracious in his invite.

It was as if nothing had happened. But Bebo is still smarting from the Bachchans’ rebuffs and rejected their olive branch and hung out with Saif and her friends like Manish Malhotra, Karan Johar and Shabina Khan.”

Kareena was not the only person the Bachchans wooed in Bangkok. When Aishwarya Rai broke off with Vivek Oberoi he became persona non grata for the Bachchans. But Vivek broke the ice when he attended Teji Bachchan’s funeral.

This time, at the IIFA, where VO behaved discreetly, and shied away from the TV media who quizzed him about his ex. He stayed in his room rather than answer uncomfortable questions and whip up more publicity. Adds a source, “Abhishek personally invited Vivek to the party in his room.

But Vivek didn’t take up the offer. He hung out in Zayed Khan’s room with Fardeen Khan and Apoorva Lakhia and gang instead.”

Akshay Kumar rocks IIFA with his performance

He enters with a bang and leaves with a louder bang. Akshay Kumar and his stunts are simply fantabulous and the audience is bowled over by his antics each time. Well here's a record of how Akshay's stunts enticed the audience.

At the IIFA Awards, Akshay Kumar, stole the thunder during the grand finale. As the fireworks blazed and the audience screamed with delight, Akki descended on the stage, sliding swiftly across a cable from the extreme end of the auditorium. Clad in a 'pagdi' and snazzy overcoat, similar to his get-up in Singh Is Kinng. He was soon joined by a pack of dancers, dressed as sardars, roaring the name of his upcoming release. Among others, he danced to both the title tracks from Singh Is Kinng, leaving the Thai, Bollywood struck audiences absolutely bedazzled!

Trouble in Bangkok

It was a Pakistani fan of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor who leaked the information about trouble in paradise. Kareena was in Bangkok where she was to perform at an awards function. Says an industry insider, “The guy was waiting near Kareena Kapoor’s van to get an autograph from the couple. Saif arrived at the event at about 6 pm and went straight into the van and was there with Kareena for about three hours. This Pakistani fan, who was waiting outside, heard Saif complaining to Kareena about her outfit she was planning to wear for her performance. Kareena kept on pacifying Saif asking him not to make an issue of it. The actor, it is learnt, did not want Kareena to wear a revealing outfit for her performance at the event.”

Thereafter, Saif, Kareena and Babita Kapoor came out of the van and went straight for the actress’s performance. All eyes were on Saif while Kareena was performing but he certainly did not appear to be in a good mood. After the performance, the two of them returned to the van. Adds an insider, “Saif stepped out of the van after some time, Kareena followed him and was seen pleading to Saif to stay back but the actor did not care. He got into the car and left.”

Apparently, Saif and Kareena have been having problems in their relationship and it is more from Saif’s side than Kareena’s. “Saif has got a little touchy and extremely possessive about Kareena and has begun restricting the actress and objecting to a lot of things that she does. Kareena is someone who has always lived her life on her terms and needs her space and Saif is someone who is just the opposite. The actress may definitely be feeling claustrophobic with the actor’s behaviour. But in spite of all that she requested Saif to stay back and not create a scene.”

Reportedly, Kareena was not even aware of Saif’s arrival, a media person who was present at the event said, “It did look like Kareena was not even aware about Saif arriving in Bangkok. When she was quizzed about Saif’s arrival, Kareena said, “So sweet of him naa, he is coming all the way from London for me.” Now this is very unlike Kareena.

Harman's nightmarish experience before his first stage performance at IIFA

It was his first live performance and choreographer Shiamak Davar who's IIFA's resident dance aficionado didn't make matters easy for Harman Baweja. According to a source, practicing his steps with Shiamak has been a lesson in "unlearning the learned", as someone close to the actor put it.

Elaborating on the nimble-footed Baweja's traumatic experience the source says, "Harman and Shiamak chose the slow and rhythmic 'Milo Na Milo' for IIFA. Harman of course had mastered Remo's original steps and he suggested to Shiamak that they retain the original steps since audiences hadn't seen much of Harman's dancing skills anyway. To Harman's surprise delight and relief Shiamak agreed to retain Remo's rhythms. The young actor couldn't have hoped for better."

For almost two weeks, Harman practiced the original steps in front of Shiamak. Then the super-choreographer had a change of 'mime'. Shiamak decided that the number must be done entirely his way.

Says the source, "Suddenly, Harman was told that the steps were being changed. After practicing for weeks, he was thrown completely off-course. Harman had no choice but to comply. But it was quite a harrowing experience to first do the original steps from the film for stage under Shiamak's guidance and then at the eleventh hour have them changed completely."

Harman laughed off the ordeal nervously on the eve of his departure for Bangkok. "All this is part and parcel of showbiz. I've to get used to slogging and I'm not scared of hard work. So far the only live audience I've danced for is me."

Interestingly, Priyanka joined Harman at the end of his act. "But that's only for a bit. I was solo most of the way,' Harman asserts.

Bonding with Bangkok

The Idea IIFA press conference in the morning was a colourful affair. Lady B (Jaya Bachchan) was attired in a pistachio green-and-gold silk salwar kameez. Dia Mirza dressed in something between a cheong and a dress? The actress was seen striding from one corner of the hotel to another with security guards in tow. She appeared to be as busy as the Bachchans though we don’t know with what!

After the IIFA press conference where Amitabh Bachchan and the Indian ambassador to Thailand Latha Reddy were presented two symbolic bowls of rice (rice is the staple diet of Thai and Indians) by two children. AB then planted a sapling at the Dusit Thani hotel park. He reminisced, “This reminds me of last year when I had planted a champa tree at the United Nations and thus grew the tree of friendship. I hope to do that too here in Bangkok.” Bachchan was also presented a huge bronze elephant as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.

Akshay the main highlight of IIFA Awards 2008

Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif will be unofficially releasing the music of Vipul Shah’s Singh Is Kinng at the IIFA in Bangkok this year. Not just that Akki is also performing at the function. The buzz is that he has been paid a cool 2.5 crore for his act.

Says a source, “Akshay will be performing the Snoop Dogg title song solo. He will perform to his other hit numbers too like Hare Ram from Bhool Bhulaiya as well. After the performance, Akshay is likely to head to LA next week to shoot the video with RDB and Snoop Dogg.”

The source continues, “Akki and Kat will also perform together. At the end of his Singh Is Kinng performance, he will bring Katrina in and both will do a joint act.

This year, it doesn’t look like the Khans (though people are expecting Salman Khan to make a surprise appearance with Govinda) will be attending IIFA so it follows that Akshay’s will be the principal and highlight act.”

“The Goddess of Bollywood”

This is one performance Kareena will not forget in a hurry. The actress’ performance in IIFA will be a special one. She will be performing as “The Goddess of Bollywood.”

Says Bebo, “I am very excited and have been rehearsing every day for it after my shooting gets over with the choreographer sent by Shiamak. He has designed the act and every song has a different theme and colour.” Kareena will make a grand entrance on a huge lotus. Her designer Manish Malhotra sat with organisers, Wizcraft, and worked out a theme and costume with every song.

The actress adds excitedly, “There will be three main songs apart from Dil Haara and Chaliya from Tashan and will end with Mauja Hi Mauja from Jab We Met. The outfits will be cute, sexy and glamorous with lots of colours like gold, greens and purples.”

Kareena has no regrets about Tashan unlike co-stars Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. She says, “My performance was appreciated. Ditto for my looks and styling. My figure became a debate for national news! I am happy with Tashan and what it gave me.

Films doing or not doing well, doesn’t affect me. Success and failures are a part and process of life. Today I have the best line-up of films and it can’t get better. I am happy with life…”

IIFA weekend opens amidst uncalled for controversies

The IIFA Awards '08 weekend kick starts in exotic Bangkok from today (June 6). And even before the actual function starts, organizers Wizcraft Entertainment found themselves in a soup with some stars throwing tantrums while others landing themselves in uncalled for trouble.

Among the first stars to troop in Bangkok were close friends Urmila Matondkar and star designer Manish Malhotra. However, the she didn't have the most pleasant welcome in Bangkok as she was asked by the hotel staff to wait for a while for her room keys. Needless to say, Madame Matondkar threw a fit and cooled down only after the organizers stepped in.

This was just one of the instances. Another embarrassing moment was at the Bangkok airport itself, when Rajeev (Chimpoo) Kapoor was held by the cops as he was in an inebriated state. Apparently, the actor-director was so drunk that he couldn't even tell his name properly at the immigration counter. Not a perfect start for the IIFA weekend one would say.

However, on the brighter side the IIFA weekend promises quite a lot of exciting events like the Gala Premiere of Sarkar Raj and some dazzling performances on the awards night. One of the hottest stars in Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor, is set to perform a special act in which she would appear as 'The Goddess of Bollywood'. Bebo would be performing to her latest chartbusters from Tashan, Jab We Met etc. and would have a different theme for each song. The act has been choreographed by ace choreographer Shiamak Davar while Manish Malhotra would be designing Bebo's outfits.

IIFA set to enthrall Bangkok from Friday

The glitz and glamour of Bollywood is all set to dazzle Bangkok with the ninth edition of the three-day International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) commencing in the Thai capital from Friday.

Mumbai: The glitz and glamour of Bollywood is all set to dazzle Bangkok with the ninth edition of the three-day International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) commencing in the Thai capital from Friday.

Apart from the awards ceremony on June 8, the highlight of the weekend will be the premiere of Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar Raj starring Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan on Friday.

IIFA is often derided as the Bachchan family show in India and called the Bollywood Oscars in the foreign media and the host country.

It has come a long way since 2000 when it debuted at London's Millennium Dome as a one-day award show to a three-day event that embraces trade, business, tourism, film premieres, fashion extravaganzas, bilateral engagement and an awards ceremony.

Bollywood fans in Bangkok will not get to see Shah Rukh Khan in action at the weekend despite his home production Om Shanti Om and the critically acclaimed box office success Chak De India featuring him in the lead role are contenders for IIFA trophies in various categories.

Shah Rukh has not been attending the IIFA since 2005, lending credence to the much reported cold war between the Big B and SRK.

However, Shah Rukh has said that since the IIFA weekend coincides with the summer holidays of his children, he prefers spending time with the kids rather than spend three days abroad.

Aamir Khan's Taare Zameen Par, which has won awards in several categories at all popular film award shows, does not feature in the nomination list.

According to Big B, the brand ambassador of IIFA, Aamir who is the producer of Taare Zameen Par did not enroll his film to be selected for IIFA nomination.

Aamir's first home production Lagaan premiered at IIFA a few years ago.

With Salman Khan busy with his debut on television, Akshay Kumar will be the star attraction of the awards nite along with top stars like Kareena Kapoor and Govinda.

Other performers include Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja, Ritesh Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, Fardeen Khan, Dia Mirza, Zayed Khan and Vivek Oberoi.

The awards show will be hosted by actor Boman Irani.

What will Sallu say?

...when Akki-Kat perform at IIFA finale this month

Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif will team up for the IIFA finale in Bangkok. This will be the first time the actors will be paired opposite each other at an award function.

Sources reveal that they will be seen together for a promotional song of their forthcoming release Singh is Kinng.

Interestingly, this is the first time that Salman Khan will not be attending IIFA.

A source reveals the finale will also involve lot of background dancers, colourful ensembles and some pyrotechnics. “The IIFA highlight this year is, undoubtedly, the Akki-Kat act.

Everyone wants to make it happen. The two have been the biggest acts of the past year. The two performing on stage together for a live audience is a very big deal.”

Katrina confirmed that she is working out an act with Akshay, “The performance is being worked out. We are trying to figure out what we can do at the grand finale.

As of now I will be performing to my Race songs. If Akki and I do perform together it will be for our Singh is Kinng act.”

Akshay has been in South Africa for the last few weeks shooting episodes for his reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi. As soon as he gets back, the actor will start rehearsing for his IIFA act with Katrina.

Bebo is a Size One

“Kareena is in Australia shooting for Mr and Mrs Khanna with Salman Khan and I have been told that she will be the star show stealer for my collection. And now that she is a size one, I have to work doubly hard to get the clothes to fit perfectly”, opening lines as I chat up with ace fashion designer, Manish Malhotra.
Yes, after achieving the much-talked about international figure and initiating a trend of sorts, Bebo is now a size ‘one’. Post-the Tashan and bikini hoopla, Kareena who is currently shooting with Salman Khan in Australia for ‘Main Aur Mrs. Khanna’ is finally giving into the ‘Kapoor urge for food’. That and the hectic shoot schedules are eating up into Kareena’s workout time who will make her first public appearance in the newly acquired figure at IIFA 2008.

Scheduled to be held at Bangkok from June 6-8, IIFA will not just see Kareena grooving to some chartbusting numbers along the likes of Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Govinda, but also walking the ramp for her favourite designer Manish Malhotra. B-town’s blue-eyed stylist who’s responsible for the makeover of some of the biggest stars, Manish is checking everything twice over to make sure that this one goes smooth.

The designer who will present a bridal collection focusing on Indians colours, will also experiment with the colour ‘black’. Manish discloses, I am looking forward to the international Indian platform that will allow me to showcase my art. I will be using 15 female models and 5 male models. But right now, I am concentrating on Kareena.”

Kareena will fly down to Bangkok on the 7th, a couple of hours before the fashion extravaganza. No wonder Manish is having sleepless nights !!!
