I wasn't topless: Mallika Sherawat

With her much-hyped film “Hisss” up for release, a couple of strong Hollywood and Bollywood friendships to boast about, and a chance to pair opposite the Big B in a forthcoming Hindi flick, dusky beauty Mallika Sherawat has all the reasons to smile. She gets talking on all that makes her life livelier...

On “Hisss”
It’s such an incredible movie. People say it’s ground-breaking in many ways... Bollywood’s first FX creature-feature, directed by Jennifer Lynch, the daughter of a legendary Hollywood director David Lynch, about India’s ancient superhero, the Nagin! The Hollywood FX takes a little longer to look really good. But, I’m confident our snake looks as good, if not better, than the snakes in “Prince of Persia” and “Clash of the Titans”!

Influenced, Not inspired!
Nagin films are a rich tradition anywhere where Hinduism and Buddhism has travelled. Jennifer Lynch and the creative team looked at some of the previous films to make sure they would come up with new ideas for a more modern, global vision of the popular legend. The Vedic scriptures are very much a part of the film. The director even visited the snake temple at Nagercoil. But, at the same time, she also hung out with the herpetologists at the snake park in Chennai.

An experience of a lifetime
I had to shoot sometimes for 14 hours a day in a full-bodied snake suit with tail extensions, hair extensions, snake eye contact lenses... without even visiting the ladies’ room at my convenience! Tough days included lying in the mud, half-naked in the jungles of Kerala where it’s practically raining leeches, to running around a Mumbai market for the big chase scene, doing stunts in a burka. It’s been a tough journey. Nevertheless, interesting and enriching!

Grabbing eyeballs!
The supposedly ‘topless’ scenes in the movies have also generated a hype. I didn’t mean to offend anybody; it was a very artistic shot. But then again, I forgot I was the only one who knew I was clothed underneath in a skin-colored bodysuit! People say we do these things just to promote our movies, but I have lots of fun doing what I do, making movies, promoting them, and living life. Performing with a 15-foot python was one of the best moments of my life!

If only Hollywood had a Rajini
I’m a fan of the great Rajinikanth. The man is amazing; he’s blessed in a special way. And yes, if Hollywood had a Rajnikanth Film Festival for a night and the theatre was filled, I bet he’d become a cult-sensation there, too! Rajnikanth is like the Hollywood hero that Hollywood never had!

Mallika Sherawat goes topless for Hissss

Mallika Sherawat
From the time the film went into production, to the time Mallika Sherawat walked the Cannes in her 'ssssnake' inspired outfit, Hissss has been in the news.

Whether it was a sign of Miss Sherawat going Hollywood or the fact that this film could be Mallika's big ticket Hollywood, there were speculations of all kinds. But neither have we seen the film, nor has Sherawat announced any new big projects officially! But what we do get to see are some interesting pictures of hers, every now and then. Last was when she walked in with a snake spiralled around her neck for Cannes. And now on the popular networking site - twitter, she has posted a topless picture of her.

In the typical Mallika style, she has asked for comments on twitter saying, "Is it too much?" Well! Mallika ...is it ever??

Even before this happens, there's been a lot of excitement at Cannes for Mallika. She's been tweeting about how excited she on being complimented by design legend Valentino. "In front of everyone super-designer Valentino said I'm 1 of most beautiful and glamorous women he's ever seen! I can die now, jk!"

There was more self-promotion from Mallika. She tweeted about how she was on the Cannes best dressed list. "WOW! 1 of the 13 best-dressed @ Cannes?! and me the only Indian listed!?"

Wonder what Ash and Deepika will have to say about that?

Mallika Sherawat can't steal my limelight

Irrfan Khan confident about not getting overshadowed in ‘Hisss’

Mallika Sherawat has been grabbing eyeballs with footage of her body-hugging costumes as a snakewoman in Jennifer Lynch's "Hisss", but her co-star Irrfan Khan is unperturbed and says she cannot overshadow him in the movie.

"Mallika can't steal my limelight - never - let her do whatever she does. That's her game. That is not my game. I entertain people. I be myself, do my work in a way that I enjoy and connect with my audience so that they remember my work for at least two years," Irrfan told IANS. He was in New Delhi on Aug 29 for the launch of the seventh season of MTV's adventure reality show "Roadies".

Speaking more about "Hisss", the actor said: "It's a different kind of action adventure film - a very nice take on a story everyone has seen - 'Naagin'. But through that story, the writer and director have incorporated the elements of how we as human beings call ourselves advanced and evolved, but actually we have made ourselves blind to nature.

"We have become just a consumer of nature and are only concerned about extracting things for our use, and in the process we are creating a huge crisis. On the surface, it's just an action sort of a film with lots of nudity and sex and Mallika plays a snakewoman."

Irrfan, who played the inspector in Danny Boyle's multiple Oscar winning movie "Slumdog Millionaire", said it would be unfair to reveal his part as it will spoil the essence of the film.

Other films that he is looking forward to include Sanjay Gupta's "Acid Factory" and "Paan Singh Tomar" - both of which have streaks of action and adventure.

Why this sudden inclination towards the genre?

"I have loved adventure, especially physical sports. When I went to South Africa to shoot for 'Acid Factory', I sky-dived 18,000 feet. It gives you an adrenaline rush. As for the choice of genre, it's not sudden. People have always taken me as a serious actor but I was dying to tell them I am not. As an actor, I need to do all - comedy, tragedy, action and adventure. I want variety," the actor told IANS.

Irrfan is also excited about his stint on "MTV Roadies 7", Indian television's longest running reality show. He will make special appearances to throw open seven twists based on the seven sins - lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride - during the show.

"I agreed on this show for two reasons - because I love action and adventure and because I love travelling. Now I won't be doing action, but I will be compelling the contestants to do a lot of it. I like the show as it's a test of mental and physical endurance. It gives you a chance to challenge yourself," he said.

Mallika is the new Hissss woman!

If you think no one can play a snake woman better than Sridevi, then Bollywood’s bold babe Mallika Sherawat has been hinting that she’ll prove you wrong!

Bollywood’s sexy siren, Mallika is highly banking on Jennifer Lynch’s Hissss in which she plays a snake woman. Apparently, the girl who now has a milkshake named after her, has fans comparing her to Sridevi who immortalised the snake woman in Bollywood.

When asked if her film will match up to Sridevi’s Nagina, Mallika said, “It will be unlike anything you ever saw. Nagina was a classic, but Hissss is for the new age.” So from being the ‘Kiss woman of Bollywood’ (remember those 17 kisses in Khwahish), Sherni Sherawat is the new Hissss woman!

Mallika rocking night out!

Mallika’s friend list in the US of A continues to grow. She was seen bonding with rocker Dave Navarro, Carmen Electra (former Baywatch babe)’s ex-husband at a concert in the US.

The Hissss bombshell, looking hot in a shocking pink dress, recently hung out with rock stars at the famed Sunset Strip music venue The House of Blues as a special guest of Donovan Leitch (son of legendary musician Donovan) at his Camp Freddy gig, Mallika met and hobnobbed with Ace Frehely of the band Kiss, Duff McKagan of Guns ‘n’ Roses, Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction, Billy Duffy of The Cult and Ozzy Ozbourne.

Accompanied by her Los Angeles entourage, Mallika hung out backstage before the show and then enjoyed her very first rock concert down front of the stage for the full experience. She "tweeted" throughout the night on her Twitter social networking account, saying to her followers 'OMG! Ozzy's on right now! I have no eardrums left!' and that notorious rake of rock Dave Navarro was 'very charming and a perfect gentlemen.'

When asked what she thought of the concert, she replied, 'Please speak up, I really can't hear anything at all.' When the question was loudly repeated, Mallika said she 'had great fun. Donovan was the perfect host. For my first rock concert, it couldn't have been better!'

Stealing Carmen Electra's ex arm candy, you're doing the right thing babes!

Mallika refuses to go nude for ‘Hisss’

She has limits about exposing

Mallika Sherawat might be known for her bold style statements and her bold dressing sense. But when it came to stripping for her upcoming movie “Hisss” (pictured above), she flatly refused to go nude.

In one of the scenes, Mallika had to transform into a snake and that required her to slither and wriggle in the mud. While doing so, some certain parts of her body, including her bottom, had to be exposed.

Mallika did not want to show her bottom and hence she asked for a body double to do the scene.

Director Jennifer Lynch had to give in to Mallika’s request and agree on a body double.

“Hisss” is a story of a Naagin, played by Mallika, who sets out to find a mate with a vengeance.

Is this Mallika’s butt

Sadly, no. The daring Mallika Sherawat who doesn’t shy away from exposing has developed cold feet in her upcoming snake woman flick Hisss.

The actress insisted on a body double for a scene in which she sheds her skin in the forest. Her brother Vikram Lamba, when quizzed by the press on whether Mallika had backed out from doing the scene herself, denied it outright. 'Yes, we have used a body double, but it was Jennifer Lynch (the director) who took a call on the matter and decided that we should use a body double.'

Hissss is the story of a naagin with a vengeance agenda, played by Mallika. The bloody, gory film has Mallika the naagin gulping down bodies while she shape-shifts into a beautiful woman to locate her mate, who has been captured. Creating chaos in the city, the cops are bewildered with this mysterious phenomenon and Irrfan Khan, who plays the head cop must capture her before she strikes again.

But this is not a new thing. Mahesh Bhatt once spoke about her developing cold feet during the making of Murder. Did you know she used a body double even then? Now you do!

StarBoxOffice feels that the dare-bare Mallika Sherawat seems to have toned down her wild ways, which we get to hear about so much only in print. The truth is always something else. Afterall, she is still an Indian girl, no matter what she is up to in LA!

New Age Naagin

Mallika Sherawat is raising quite the furore in her upcoming film Hisss, the actress has posed in nothing but leaves in one of the scenes of the film.

Starring Irrfan Khan and Divya Dutta, Mallika is a snakewoman with a vengeance. Gobbling up anything that comes her way, the movie is based on a Far Eastern myth of the snake woman who is able to take on human form. According to Mallika, this is by far her most difficult role too date; she had to wear huge contact lenses that even covered the white of her eyes and had to take out the lenses every few hours to let her eyes breathe. The elaborate nagin costume had to be kept on for 8-10 hours at a stretch and she has to be carried around.

For now the actress is living it up in LA, promoting her film. The actress is enjoying the high life with Usher and Yanni and the latter even dedicating a song to her in front of millions of people at a concert. Not only has she been featured in many international T.V shows, she even went on a movie date with Johnny Depp. On quizzed on her return to Bollywood, the actress replied, “I'll come back to Bollywood when they learn how to treat a woman right.” This will be one highly anticipated snake bite for sure!

In India, we have sex with our clothes on: Irrfan

Nudity has been an issue in the Indian film industry long since. When Hollywood directors descend on B-town, with their concepts, actors are hardly ever wanting to let go off their inhibitions in films. Irrfan Khan recently voiced his opinion on sex scenes for Jennifer Lynch's Hiss.

Irrfan confirms, “Jennifer said I will have to take off my clothes for an intimate scene with Divya Dutta who is playing my wife in the film. I personally think Indian couples make love with their clothes on and I told this to Jennifer.”

He adds, “She was amazed that how can people have sex with their clothes on. I gave her the example of my previous film The Namesake where I had done a passionate lovemaking scene with Tabu and that too with our clothes on. Jennifer was fascinated, but unconvinced."

Irrfan then thought of a new plan. He reasoned that he plays an orthodox Brahmin whose mother-in-law has a habit of walking into his bedroom unannounced. “Given the conditions, my character and his wife would hardly be expected to take off their clothes. And that convinced Jennifer,” What a sigh of relief!

“The most relieved was Divya. She was waiting with bated breath to see if I could manage to convince Jennifer. Once everything was sorted out, our lovemaking scene lasted for about an hour.” Talk about the Indian style of love making!

When we asked Divya Dutta about the scene she said “There is nothing much in it at all. I have a kissing scene with Irrfan Khan in the film, that’s it. That too was very professionally done. When the story demands it, I try to play my character to the fullest, including acting out these scenes. It’s as simple as that.”

The snake woman in the film Mallika Sherawat has had no apprehensions doing a dare bare act throughout the film. We wait to hear from her, the woman with the real fizz...hiss!

Mallika Sherawat’s making everyone cringe!

Blood, gore, awesome sound effects form the crux of Hisss. Sherawat plays a woman who becomes a snake and then goes on a killing spree. The gruesome killing scenes definitely make you cringe and so does the getup of Mallika clad in a snake costume. It is not at all like what we’ve seen in our Sridevi popularised Nagin films before. It is the Anaconda-esque version of Nagin.

The only problem is the film is directed by Jennifer Lynch of Boxing Helena (1993) fame. Her film had won her a Raspberry award for the worst director in 1994.

After disappointing her fans in a blink and miss role in The Myth, we’ve heard Mallika apparently has no dialogues in Hisss too! Ahem... we hope the film is as good as its promo though.

Indian films get positive response in Cannes

With "Slumdog Millionaire" having made waves on the global scene, Indian movie themes and filmmakers are beginning to reap the benefits in the international sales and co-productions arena at the ongoing Cannes Film Market.

"'Slumdog' has opened a door for Indian cinema," says Hollywood producer Ashok Amritraj. "We have to put our foot in and capitalise on the opportunity."

The happy augury is that several Indian films have been picked up for global distribution by frontline sales agents and the going could only get better from here on if filmmakers from this part of the world, as Amritraj points out, can learn the rules of the game.

The Indian Film Company (TIFC) has made history by selling its "Road, Movie", written and directed by Dev Benegal, to Fortissimo Films, which is one of the world's leading sales agents with offices in Amsterdam, London, Paris, New York and Hong Kong.

"'Road, Movie' is an important milestone in our company's endeavour to support India's growth on the cinematic world stage," said Sandeep Bhargava, CEO of the advisory board of TIFC.

TIFC has also got leading British distribution company HanWay Films on board to handle Gurinder Chadha's "It's a Wonderful Afterlife", starring Golden Globe winner Sally Hawkins, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Jimi Mistry and Shabana Azmi.

Endeavour Independent has bought the distribution rights of Venus Records and Tapes' "Hisss", a Hindi-English film directed by Jennifer Lynch and starring Irrfan Khan and Mallika Sherawat.

Also playing for big global stakes is Ambika Hinduja's Serendipity Films. It is pitching the Leena Yadav-directed "Teen Patti" for widespread global sales in the Cannes Film Market. The film features Amitabh Bachchan, Ben Kingsley, R. Madhavan and Saira Mohan.

"We want to make cinema that will appeal to audiences in both India and around the world," Hinduja, whose previous production was Homi Adjania's wickedly quirky "Being Cyrus", told Variety in Cannes.

India's biggest entertainment sector player, Reliance Big Pictures, has brought a slew of arthouse films, besides Anurag Basu's Hrithik Roshan-Barbara Mori starrer "Kites", to the Cannes market. The response, company representatives say, has been hugely encouraging.

Big Pictures' offbeat regional line-up includes Buddhadeb Dasgupta's "Janala" (Bengali), Shaji N. Karun's "Kutty Srank" (Malayalam), Amol Palekar's "Samantar" (Marathi), M.S. Sathyu's "Ijjudu" (Kannada), and Rituparno Ghosh's "Abohomaan" and "Shob Charitra Kalponik" (both Bengali).

"We will be unveiling these films in various major festivals in the coming months," says Reliance Entertainment chairman Amit Khanna.

Ssssee Ssssherawth

The trailer of the much hyped and anticipated Mallika Sherawat film, Hissss is out and makes for an interesting watch.

Warning! Hissss is not for the faint hearted. It has plenty of blood and gore, and will surely get an adult certificate from the Censor Board.

Set in a jungle, the trailer shows Mallika Sherawat slithering in mud and becoming a snake. Covered in a body suit that fits her like second skin, it looks as if Mallika hasn't worn anything.

There are sequences with murders, blood and gore. Mallika is seen slithering up a tree and baring her fangs. She looks scary. In one scene, she transforms into a helpless woman. Irrfan and Divya Dutta are also seen in the trailer.

Hissss is the story of a snake woman looking for revenge. It is high on special effects too. She will not spare anyone who comes her way.

Irrfan and Divya Dutta play a couple in the film. Mallika Sherawat has also produced the Jennifer Lynch-directed film.
