Ash may be late!

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s much-awaited Endhiran (Tamil) and The Robot (Hindi) are generating hype and excitement.

And, a lot of this is to do with the fact that Ash is teaming up with namma superstar Rajinikanth for the first time. Strong rumours say that steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal is picking up a stake in the overseas rights of the film. But distributors are not sure when the film is going to hit the screens. Earlier, it was meant to be a Diwali release. However, now it is being said that since Oscar-winner AR Rahman is yet to finish work on the background score, the film could be delayed further.

But come what may, the film is going to be nothing short of a visual treat for the audience, with Rajinikanth and Aishwarya in action, Shankar handling the megaphone and AR Rahman scoring the music.

Bollywood diva Aishwarya Rai and Tamil superstar Rajnikant's mega-budget 'Endhiran' is expected to hit the screens Sep 3.

Produced by Sun Pictures and directed by Shankar, 'Endhiran' is said to be one of the most expensive films. It's made at a budget of Rs.190 crore.

The formal announcement regarding the release date is expected to come soon.

Meanwhile, director Shankar has revealed the film's story on his blog.

"It revolves around a robot, who, all of a sudden turns into a human being and mingles with society," Shankar posted on his blog.

"The film will have many surprises. Technology has been used to the maximum possible extent. I am hopeful that 'Endhiran' will surpass all expectations. Rajni is such a simple man who is totally unaware of his fame and power."

Kat didn’t replace me: Ash

Some have written her off, some say her crown is under threat. But Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is oblivious to such comments.

With her trademark smile in place, the graceful Bachchan bahu set about business, charming one and all during her recent trip to the city. The actor glowed despite reports of suffering from swine flu. “As the head of the house, Pa voiced his concerns on his blog about my health. He said I had flu like symptoms. Soon, word spread that I had swine flu!” said Ash when questioned about her health. But like everything else, these rumours too were put to rest. “Pa had to then clarify that it was just a normal flu,” said Ash while accepting that the Big B’s blog is indeed quite a ‘hit’. “For me it was Pa blogging because he was concerned and away from home at that time. But for others, it was like a confirmation of sorts that Amitabh Bachchan says Ash has the swine flu!”

Apart from shooting for Raavan, Endhiran, Guzaarish and Action Replay, Ash also has other professional commitments to honour which takes up a lot of her time. But hey, she’s not complaining. After all, she is the face of some of the most popular brands across the world. “I’ve always been very selective about the brands I endorse. There’s no rat race. Every endorsement has a story behind it. The bottomline is, I don’t like endorsing brands which are anywhere and everywhere,” explains Ash.

And what about rumours of a jewellery brand dropping her for Katrina Kaif? “I would like to say this loud and clear; I chose not to renew my contract with the jewellery brand,” affirms the actor setting the record straight. “I had a contract with another brand under which that particular jewellers came. Once they parted ways, I decided not to endorse them anymore,” she goes on to explain.

Taking the opportunity to put to rest the talk about her being dropped by other brands due to her age, Ash said, “No one every dropped me. I chose not to renew certain contracts. Like the one with the cola brand. Post marriage I decided not to endorse them anymore as Pa and Abhishek were endorsing the rival cola brand. I didn’t want any confusion in the consumer’s mind,” she quipped .

With film and endorsement offers pouring in, Ash is indeed a busy woman just like she was a few years ago. Unlike others, marriage doesn’t seem to have slowed her down. “Earlier, it was tough for a heroine to get work after marriage. Their so-called brand value would depreciate. That didn’t happen with me, as I've always aspired to push the envelope,” she explains.

But she does not take the credit for this alone. “I have to thank the professionals I’ve worked with. They were not regressive and changed with times,” she says. And unlike other contemporaries, Ash always seems pretty secure and confident of her career. “And why not?” she asks going on to add that, “Throughout my career I’ve never said things like, ‘I’m not ready for marriage now’, or ‘marriage will happen only after five or six years’. When I was ready for marriage, everybody knew. I’ve never given escapist quotes.”
But now that she is married into the first family of Bollywood, doesn’t she want to take it slow? “I have a secret pride, you know. I’ve always wanted to work after marriage and I couldn’t see why that should change after I tied the knot,” says Ash, while adding immediately, “Don’t misunderstand me. I’m not a hardcore feminist. I’m a humanist.”

The down-to-earth superstar rewinds, “I’ve had a long and wonderful journey. My photographer friends and others have pointed out that I have improved over the years.” But that did not come easy. “Earlier when a girl signed a film opposite a certain hero, it made big news. But I was not satisfied with just that, I wanted more. There were times when I signed a film and it turned out to be something else. I then brought it something different and new to the industry that protected the rights of the heroine like the MOUs and other contractual changes.”

Ask her if any of it was tough and she says, “Well I’ve constantly learnt and improved as an actor. My efforts have definitely made things a lot easier for my ilk.”

Aishwarya happy with two mega southern projects

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai is elated over bagging the main leads in two mega south Indian projects - Mani Ratnam's "Ravan" and Shankar's "Endhiran".

"Shankar had approached me previously to work with him, but it never materialised. Finally, everything landed in place and here we are working together after 10 years," said Aishwarya on the sets of "Ravan".

Tamil superstar Rajinikant, who is playing the male lead in "Endhiran", was also very keen to work with Aishwarya and had tried to sign her for his earlier ventures - "Padaiyappa" and "Chandramukhi", but the actress could not spare the dates.

Speaking about Ratnam's "Ravan", in which she once again teams up with her husband Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya said: "I don't want to reveal much about it. Working with Mani is always a delight. He is a man of perfection. I am lucky to act in his movies again and again."

Aishwarya was earlier seen in Ratnam's "Iruvar" and "Guru", in which Abhishek was in the main lead.

While shooting for "Ravan" in the jungles of Kerala, the entire cast and crew had a scary experience when an elephant ran amok and killed 51-year-old mahout Andavan.

The actors including Abhishek, Aishwarya, Vikram, Prabhu and Munna had to take shelter in a guest house.

According to sources, the film personalities spent the night in the forest guest house and survived on bread and eggs. After 12 hours of tension and waiting, the crew returned to their hotel.

Now the cast and crew of "Ravan" has moved to Ooty where the remaining portions of the film will be shot.

Rajni Sir kicked by Ash

After her gripping sword fighting act with Hrithik Roshan in Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Jodhaa Akbar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to karate chop South superstar Rajnikanth in her forthcoming sci-fi film Endhiran.

Ash has enrolled herself into a karate coaching class to prepare her body to pull off some slick action moves. She’s all set to lock horns with her 60 plus, yet going strong co-star as a particular scene will have the duo fighting against each other. Ash although isn’t oblivious to such risky stunts as she did show her dare devilry in Dhoom: 2 where she played the consort of a thief (Hrithik Roshan as A) and also in The Last Legion for which she had to learn sword fighting.

The scene in Endhiran has Rajnikanth and Aishwarya engaged in a karate fight sequence. Rajnikanth plays Ash's teacher here and he is shown as someone who takes on the mantle to train his beloved (Ash) and others in the martial art form, so that they can protect themselves against evil forces. The sequence later has a remarkable fight sequence between the two.

A source confirmed, "A veteran stuntman in the South, Ramesh has been training many stars in karate for the past 30 years. He also owns a Japan Shito-Ryu karate school and it is here that Ash has enrolled herself to learn this ancient martial arts. The film requires her to strain her muscles in some scenes and exhibit her karate skills. She also wants to be super fit as the film supposedly will show her doing some power stunts."

Well it seems like Aishwarya is all ready to kick some mean behind to prove that she’s still going strong…

Aishwarya's Tamil stumps Rajini

Aishwarya Rai seems to have many hidden talents.

One that was recently discovered is her quick grasp of languages. And the unit which discovered this secret is none other than Shankar’s Endhiran when the pretty babe held her own against our glib-talking super-talking Superstar.

“Since Tamil isn’t really familiar territory for Aishwarya, everyone, including Rajini sir and director Shankar, was ready for several re-takes while she was memorising her lines.”

To everyone’s surprise, Aishwarya got a grip of the language in no time at all. “She was rattling off the dialogues and getting the hang of the emotions with equal skill in both the Hindi and Tamil takes. This very much impressed Rajini sir, who has waited for years to work with Aishwarya.”

When asked about the incident, Aishwarya laughs. “Regional languages have never been a problem. I did a Bengali film Chokher Bali and was able to get a hang of the complex intonations while shooting. However, they later dubbed for my character as they needed a particular sing-song tone,” she reveals.

Now, the buzz in the Endhiran unit is that they are planning to retain her Tamil lines in the final print.

Says the actress who is now in Ooty, “I’m not at familiar with Tamil and my mother tongue Tulu is very different from it. But you must remember that my first film Iruvar was in Tamil, and I had to say lengthy lines in that film. From my beginnings with Mani Ratnam in Tamil, to this film, it’s been quite a journey.”

Aishwarya Rai, Rajnikanth complete second 'Endhiran' shooting schedule

'Endhiran - The Robot' stars Aishwarya Rai and Rajnikanth completed another week long shooting schedule on location in Goa on Sunday, October 12. A new schedule is expected to start soon.

The break in filming must have come as a welcome relief to a worried Aishwarya, whose father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan who was hospitalized on his 66th birthday on Saturday, October 11, for severe abdominal pain.

According to a family statement, Bachchan is currently in Lilavati Hospital and will stay there for the next two days to undergo tests.

It is being reported that he is suffering from incisional hernia, a condition that has dogged him since the near-fatal accident on the sets of Coolie in 1982.

The producers of the Sci-Fi film, Ayngaran, have released another promotional still that shows Rajnikanth, 58, sporting long hair and French beard, attired like a noble of the Mughal empire, amidst guards dressed like Roman soldiers! Bollywood at its best, you may say!

The FX heavy movie is being simultaneously produced in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and other languages.
