Angelina Jolie visits flood-hit Pakistan

Hollywood actress and UN Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie visited flood-hit areas of Pakistan on September 7 and said that she was shocked by the level of destruction in the country.

Jolie is on a two-day visit to the country as the personal envoy of UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Geo TV reported.

The 35-year-old actress travelled to Nowshera town in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and met Afghan refugees and distributed flood relief materials.

Around 21 million people have been affected by more than five weeks of floods.

"From what I understand, the situation is on a scale we have not really seen. It's on a huge scale," she was quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph.

"There are people displaced by the floods, all their homes washed away. Many of them lost their children during the floods."

She appealed to the rest of world to extend aid to the affected people.

"It's an extraordinarily complex situation. These are very, very long, extended situations that need our constant support for a very, very long time," she said.

The award-winning actress wore a black and red embroidered cloak. Her arms were covered by a traditional long-sleeved kurta.
