Sonam is a cause celeb

After establishing herself as a fashionista and an actress to watch out for, Sonam Kapoor has associated herself with causes, the first one being diabetes awareness.

She recently shot for an ad to promote diabetes awareness. The ad says: Diabetes is a silent killer, watch out!

However, the actress is insulin resistant herself, a condition she discovered last year. Though the condition doesn’t trouble her, she has to take medication regularly. Insulin resistance is a condition in which the body produces insulin but does not use it properly. Insulin is a hormone secreted by the pancreas that helps the body use glucose for energy.

The four short ad films are part of the Max India Foundation’s health initiative. They were shot at Dabboo Ratnani’s studio. Sonam will advice patients to go for regular check ups as early detection of diabetes will help patients to lead a better life.

Sonam has also been tweeting about the same. “Diabetes is a silent killer and I empathise with people who have to live with this disease. Since I have insulin resistance myself, I decided to go out and talk about it through a PSA and I hope by doing this I can reach out to many people and help spread awareness.”
