Shahid Kapur: I am happy to be single

Shahid Kapur has revealed that he is single, putting the rumours of his affair with Priyanka Chopra to rest.

“I am single and quite happy. When I am in a relationship and it is substantial enough for me to want to spend the rest of my life with her, people will come to know,” said the soft-spoken actor.

Priyanka recently said that Shahid is a good friend of hers. Hearing this, Shahid joked, “Now she has said that I am her good friend. Even if I want, things won’t move forward between us because she considers me only a friend!”

That doesn’t stop him from talking about Priyanka’s prowess as an actress. “When I started working with Priyanka, I thought she was a good actor. After we finished shooting the film, I thought she was a very, very good actor. She is on a creative high right now, doing better roles and movies than before.”

Shahid also thinks Priyanka makes a wonderful co-star. “Priyanka is a team player. She is there to make a good film, not just do her role and go home. It’s exhilarating to work with her because she brings a lot of positivity to the sets.”

Apart from Priyanka, his other favourite co-star is Amrita Rao, who starred opposite him in his debut film Ishq Vishk and Vivaah. “I like working with Amrita and I don’t know why we aren’t getting offers to do movies together. If Sooraj Barjatya makes Vivaah again, we will be in it.”

Shahid Kapur is too cute and sweet to be called a player. After his four-year relationship with Kareena Kapoor ended, he was linked with a bevy of beauties like Amrita Rao, Vidya Balan, Sania Mirza and Priyanka Chopra. “My break-up was quite difficult, especially because it all happened in the public eye. I have grown and matured in the past two years. It’s not that I haven’t been in a relationship since then. I wouldn’t like to talk about it because it’s my personal life. That is why it is called personal.”

Kareena Kapoor became a vegetarian because of Shahid’s influence. For those keen to know, Shahid won’t force his girl to convert to vegetarianism. “I cannot force anyone. Just the way I wouldn’t like someone telling me to eat meat; I don’t think she would like me telling her to give up meat either. I was a non-vegetarian till I was 18 or 19. People would tell me to convert but I didn’t listen to them at all. I only gave up meat when I felt like. It is a matter of personal choice.”

So what does Bollywood’s adorable eligible bachelor look for in a woman? “I just think for a relationship to work, you have to feel a connection towards the person. You need to accept and love them for who they are,” concludes the star, flashing his million-watt smile.
