Censor loves Love Aaj Kal kisses
The Censor board isn’t miffed with the fact that Saif Ali Khan starrer Love Aaj Kal has five liplocks in the film.
Unlike Kambakkht Ishq, in which Kareena Kapoor was on a smooching spree, the censor board defended the kisses in Love Aaj Kal saying they weren’t as vulgar. Deepika Padukone herself had spoken of the hyped liplocks and said, "I think it was necessary in the film. I believed in the role and keeping that in mind I have been able to perform better. We have all moved way ahead. I mean how long are we going to show flowers or birds tweeting during a kissing scene?"
While the Censor Board made director Imtiaz Ali cut just one scene in the film along with giving it a UA certificate, Imtiaz said his film was a complete family entertainer. “Nobody will feel inhibited watching Love Aaj Kal. No one will hesitate walking into the film with his family. The sensational scenes are a part of the promos as well. In one scene, Saif is shown as if he is trying to hold Deepika’s butt and in another, there is a bold kissing scene in the car. My argument is that audiences are really smart. They pretty much see the intention of the filmmaker and make up their mind to watch the film accordingly.” He explained.
Regional Officer of the Censor Board, Vinayak Azad, said, “There are about five kisses in the film, but they are not heavy-duty kissing scenes as such. They are much more toned down than what we have seen in other films. We ask a scene to be cut only when there it’s a prolonged kissing scene, but in Love Aaj Kal they are cute pecks on the lips.”
Baby steps for the Censor Board, how cute!
