Shah Rukh's palace on wheels

After years of using make-up rooms and rented vans, Shah Rukh Khan has finally got himself a vanity van.

And, when it comes to King Khan, can anything ever be less than king-size?

SRK’s custom-made van has been designed by ace automobile designer Dilip Chhabria, with Shah Rukh making considerable inputs himself.

According to a source, "It is more like spaceship. It's not just technologically well equipped with computers etc. but is aesthetically futuristic in design. Shah Rukh knew exactly what he wanted, right down to where the plug point had to be. The actor had several meetings with Dilip and his son before finalising the design."

The 14-metre long van is steel grey in colour and the interiors are in chrome, steel, white and black.

Says designer Dilip Chhabria: “The van is a Volvo that is available in India, but what distinguishes this van from that of others is its chassis. We’ve used the biggest one. With five rooms inside, SRK will have the comfort of a lounge with bar, a gym, an office, a bedroom and a wash room with a shower. And since SRK is a techno-freak, we’ve designed the van keeping that in mind, with an abundant scope for technology.

"The entire van has dual system for everything and new software has been created and programmed on the computer, converting all switches to touch screen. So, when SRK’s in a party mood, the lights can work as party lights, and when he wants to relax, the lights can shift to relax mode.”
