Bags, Belts and Bangles on Day 2

Little Shilpa, Crimzon by Sonali Dalwani, Malaga by Malini Agrawal and Stoffa by Hersh, Priyanka and Malini

Little Shilpa’s war-inspired show was quirky, innovative, creative and marvelous. The audience burst into applause each time a model walked the ramp. Military green was the dominant colour with brown, gold and one multicolored headpiece thrown in. Elaborate ensembles of helmets, guns, military ribbons and badges, mouth pieces, pilot goggles and sashes formed the accessories. It was very difficult for the models to walk so the audience cheered them at each step. The hairdos were beehives.

This collection is excellent for editorial pieces and wonderfully depicts its theme of war but its wearability was limited. The pants and tees can be worn individually but the accessories were unique and cannot be worn on a regular basis.

Commenting on her successful collection, Little Shilpa said, “The theme of the collection is war and how we relate to it. My previous collection was war-based too but my next collection will deal with something softer. I don’t keep wearability in mind when I design. The picture in my head has to look amazing so some pieces are obviously for retail while the others are for the ramp and the rest are to make a statement.”

Malaga by Malini Agrawal

This was an extremely wearable and contemporary collection of belts, bags, shoes, bangles and neckpieces. Sonakshi Sinha was her showstopper. The hairdos consisted of sleek buns. The fitting dresses were black and grey. Brown mainly formed the base for the accessories while blue, orange, red and mauve were the colours for the designs, stones and motifs. The sandals were beautifully embellished and the accessories were chunky. Everything was well coordinated.

Designer Malini said, “The collection is inspired from Tibet and is extremely modern and wearable. We have used a lot of stones and leather.”

Sonakshi said, “I walked the ramp last season and Malini asked me then so I couldn’t say no because I love her work. I felt wonderful while on the ramp.”

Crimzon by Sonali Dalwani

A Black dress, gold accessories and gorgeous gladiator sandals opened the show. There were big bags in black with gold work and bright colours liked red and the clutches were heavily embroidered. The sandals were sleek.

Sonali Said, “I have kept the collection very contemporary and used python skin and other leathers. Most of the silhouettes are straight.”

Stoffa by Priyanka, Hersh and Malini

Yesteryears’ actress Madhoo opened the show with her young daughters. It was aimed at young teenage girls and young brides. There were tie ups for children and printed school bags. The soundtrack was that of The Sound of Music and Moulin Rouge. There were beautiful patchwork bags and matching sandals with stone embellishments in multicolours. The dresses for the show were cream, black and bright colours like red, yellow, orange and pink. There were net bags with silver work, denim bags with gold designs. Some of the clutches and purses were decidedly shiny and Indian. The hairdo varied from sleek buns to braids to dupattas on buns. There were oversized clutches and chained belts. All were extremely wearable, functional, feminine, classy, subtle, trendy and even Indian. The remix of Chhamma Chhamma and Lady Marmalade were the songs that played as the show came to a close.

Madhoo said, “It feels great to walk the ramp and carry this beautiful bag and shoes. I was apprehensive but my children were very keen so I decided to give them company.”

Hersh said, “We have used a lot of leather. Our collection is for girls of all ages so we had a little story with the songs. You can buy these as they are extremely affordable.”
