Nari Nari by Narendra Kumar

Narendra Kumar’s third collection at the Lakme Fashion Week was labeled Nari Nari. He said it was aimed at young, confident, independent, smart, sexy and responsible girls who will not let the moral police dictate terms to them. Former supermodel turned actress Mugdha Godse was the fitting showstopper.

The show opened with two shrouded women and moved on to the “gossip girls” who love to party. The music including remixes of Madonna’s Papa Don’t Preach, club favourite Everybody’s Free to Feel Good and a male rendition of I will survive. There was a disco ball and you felt like heading to the nearest club (in this case China House) because of the infectious vibe of the show. The models had a sexy and confident demeanour and smiles on their faces. Their hair was tied up in a funky and girly manner or left loose. Women wore blingy sandals while men stuck to sneakers.

The collection comprised party wear like tees, jeans, blouses, dresses and jackets in lively colours like red, yellow, pink, mauve, blue, gold-black, black lilac and maroon. Silk, velvet, denim, felt, satin, taffeta, georgette, cotton silk, jersey and leather were among the fabrics used. A lot of sequins, different types of embroidery like cord and houndstooth, frills, tie-ups, frays, pleats, patchwork formed the embellishments.

The silhouettes were very sexy and fitted though there were a few drapes. The men wore fitted printed pants or jeans (even gold ones) with bright tees. Some tees also had slogans. A few bejeweled or shiny belts were used to accentuate the waist and brighten a monochrome outfit. The colourful prints comprised newspapers, collage and square designs. Pop colours were used.

Mugdha’s outfit was a collage or newspaper multi-coloured print gown with a bejeweled belt and a trail. Her hair was curled and all eyes were on her. She oozed the attitude of a supermodel and her energy was amazing. She was brilliant; someone almost tripped on her trail but it was alright.

All in all, it was a very bright, sexy, young and hip collection with bold and unconventional use of colours, especially for men.
