Bollywood's Busy Bee Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa Shetty is an extremely busy woman. From films to spa launches to the IPL, she does it all. The media savvy personality with a spontaneous sense of humour tells us about her beautician dreams, her busy schedule and the fact that she has become a mother now.

SHILPA has finally realized her childhood dream and launched a chain of medispas in collaboration with Kiran Bawa of Iosis. “Before I became an actress, I nurtured dreams of opening a salon. After my SSC exams, I underwent training to become a beautician. My dad was a businessman. I knew I would be a bad businesswoman but I would run a salon very well. I have known Kiran for 17 years, we are family friends and she comes from a hospitality background. I give her these ideas of services she should have in her spa from my travels and she executes them all. Now, we both have become partners in this venture as Iosis Medispa has celebrated its birthday and Kiran and I have become mothers. Main Maa ban gayi hu,” she laughs.

Shilpa has the new tag of a businesswoman, with her production house, perfume range, Rajasthan Royals investment and now the chain of spas. So why and how did this shift from actress to businesswoman come about?

“You won’t believe it but it is all happening very suddenly. Launching a chain of spas is something I have wanted to do for a very long time. The launch got postponed because the Rajasthan Royals came up and we had to make that announcement when we did because the IPL season has started. I couldn’t have made both the announcements at the same time,” she explains, adding, “Whatever I attach my name to, be it the Yoga DVD, cricket and medispas, it is because I believe in those things and I want to give it a 100%, if not 200%. I will be completely involved in all these endeavours. I have put my production company on hold because I am going mad. I have been juggling everything. I am working on Desire; I am leaving for Jaipur tonight to shoot the promotional video for Rajasthan Royals which will be out on the 20th of March. I have to go for Sunny’s shoot in London when I will miss three of my own matches. But this is all I can do as I don’t have any more time. I am extremely passionate about what I do.”

And why did she choose to invest in spas and cricket? “In these times of recession, whether you are making money or not, you want some kind of relaxation. The only two things you will still do is watch cricket and go to a spa. I am doing both so I am quite thrilled about that,” concludes the multitasking Shetty.
