Priyanka to speak in Marathi for her next film

If you hear Priyanka Chopra speaking in Marathi, and assume that she has signed a regional film and is practising to speak the language, you’d only be half-right. The actress is learning to speak the language for her role in Vishal Bhardwaj’s next romantic comedy titled Kaminey.

Priyanka’s character in the film is that of a middle class Maharastrian girl. At the moment, she is shooting for Dostana after which she will wrap up the last schedule of Fashion. She doesn’t have enough time before she goes into shooting for Kaminey, so she’s getting help now.

Like most people who’ve lived in Mumbai, the actress understands Marathi, but is not good at speaking it. Hence she asked for a teacher to help her learn the dialogues.

A source from the project reveals, “Priyanka is required to mouth many lines in Marathi and has hired a teacher to help her. The actress is making time everyday to get her diction and pronunciation right, as the director is a stickler for perfection.”

Priyanka’s teacher Arti Ketkar acts in Marathi TV serials, and has been visiting the sets of Dostana to tutor her. In the past, Priyanka has also taken lessons for the Sikh martial art Gatka for Drona, and trained in martial arts for Farhan Akhtar’s Don.

When contacted Priyanka says, “I am equally excited and nervous. I’ve always wanted to learn Marathi and I really hope I can pick it up quickly.”
