Size, hair, and sexy scenes..

Yash Raj asks heroines to sign the dotted line on specifics

While accepting a film, actresses agree to do kissing scenes, wear swimsuits and even promise the moon but when it’s time to deliver, they go back on their word. For Darr, Juhi had agreed to wear a swimsuit. At the last minute, she tried to cop out.

After a few experiences like this, production house Yash Raj decided to keep a check on ‘key deliverables’ by stipulating specifics within contracts, ensuring there is no room for error.

Kareena Kapoor sported a size zero in Tashan for her bikini scene. Aishwarya Rai was told she’d have to wear skimpy clothes and do a kissing scene with Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 2.

Bipasha Basu signed a contract saying she’d sport a bikini in the same film. Yash Raj has a clause in their contracts where they ask their leading ladies to be a certain size and weight as per their role in the film.

The contract also has detailed sketches of the skimpy ensembles the actresses will wear in the film. A source says, “Every time an actress signs a Yash Raj film, if she’s required to wear skimpy clothes for the beach scenes or a song, they are told the exact weight that they need to be.

Also the colour of the hair, the length and detailed listing of intimate scenes in the film, to avoid problems later.

Kareena was told she needed to be around 53-54 kgs for her Tashan bikini scene. She was also told the exact bikini she would be wearing in the film right in the beginning. This started with Ash in Dhoom 2 and has now become a common practice.”

A Yash Raj spokesperson denies this, “There’s no mention of the weight in the contract. Every actress is given a character sketch during the story hearing and is told what kind of character they need to portray.

With Kareena, she wasn’t ever told she needed to be a specific size, it was her own prerogative that she needs to be lean and toned. In the past, Preity Zinta put on weight for Veer-Zaara but no one talks about that.”
