23rd May is a busy Friday

With IPL keeping the big film makers away from releasing their films (BHOOTHNATH and JANNAT are the only two major releases on 9th and 16th May respectively), 23rd May has suddenly turned out to be the most sought after Friday for the release of medium and small budget films.

This is why it doesn't come as a surprise to see number of films in a tearing hurry to hit the big screen even as they clash with each other due to problem of plenty. Believe it or not but at the last count, there are at least 5 films arriving on 23rd May.

These are WOODSTOCK VILLA, AAMIR, HASTEY HASTEY, DHOOM DADAKKA and DON MUTHUSWAMI. Most of the films have been shot in quick time and prominently feature newcomers.

Picture this - WOODSTOCK VILLA would mark the debut of Sikandar Kher and Neha Uberoi with Arbaaz Khan as the only established actor in the middle of affairs. This Sanjay Gupta production has Hansal Mehta returning back to direction after a hiatus.

AAMIR too features a debutant though the bonus comes in the form of TV superstar tag carried by Rajeev Khandelwal. A thriller, it is a UTV Spotboy production and is directed by debutant Rajkumar Gupta.

HASTEY HASTEY has a debutant aiming to make it big on the silver screen. Nisha Rawal, the 'Chanda Ki Doli' girl, is making her debut along with Jimmy Sheirgill in this light hearted entertainer which has been shot end to end in USA.

Shashi Ranjan directed DHOOM DADAKKA may not see a newcomer trying his/her luck but this comic entertainer is important for it's star cast comprising of Sameer Dattani, Shaad Randhawa, Aarti Chhabria and Shama Sikander which is trying to get a foothold in the industry.

In comparison, DON MUTHUSWAMI is the only film which has a huge star/actor standing tall. Mithun Chakraborty is seen enacting the title role in this yet another comedy which has director Ashim Samanta at the helm.

With three comedies (HASTEY HASTEY, DHOOM DADAKKA and DON MUTHUSWAMI) and two thrillers (WOODSTOCK VILLA, AAMIR) to choose from, there is quite a lot to choose from for a hardcore movie buff!
