After the dare, the darr

After the Delhi match, Akki was trapped with his family in the separate enclosure; fans refused to let him go

Akshay Kumar had scary moments at the Ferozshah Kotla Grounds after the inaugural match of the Delhi Daredevils. Akki, who is the brand ambassador of the team, was in the VIP enclosure.

He was unable to make an exit for over an hour due to the frenzied fans waiting to get a glimpse of him. It is learnt that former civil aviation minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain came to his rescue.
As reported (‘To Dilli for a dare’; April 19), the actor flew into the capital from Bangkok where he is shooting.

A source close to the actor who was present at the venue says, “Akki was enjoying the match with his family and close friends. As he tried making a quick exit, the fans made it impossible for him to leave the three-floor private box for over an hour. Even the police and the actor’s security personnel couldn’t do much.”

The source continues, “Shahnawaz, who was in the same box, called in for an extra posse of police personnel to escort the actor and his family out. The mob followed the actor to the parking lot as well and the actor had to be taken to his hotel in the former minister’s car.”

It is learnt that the incident also delayed Akki’s chartered flight to Bangkok later that night. The actor is on an overseas shoot for Nikhil Advani’s Chandni Chowk to China.
